Scone night shoot 14 Feb 17 UPDATED 17Feb

Post by wallace »

I organised a night photo shoot at Scone last night for photographers interested in night photography. ACS Flight Training were to be doing some night rating training at the same time but the weather beat them, so engine running Cessna 152s were not to be.

Here is some of the pictures...
G-BHAI Cessna 152, with some help from a ghost in the machine... who knew how to put the nav lights on

The star was the Bulldog, G-CBBT on reflection we started too early and should have waited a lit longer however this goes to show a key safety point. Props are almost invisible at night. Safety first.

The Club's training flexwing Quik G-DTAR along with some of its pals in the hangar.

A spot of back lighting went wrong with the ACS Cherokee Arrow G-EPTR.

This was a proof of concept shot, a composite image from 19 photos taken at 12800ISO, ACS Flight Training's G-BXMA Cessna 152

Inside every mk.26 Spitfire a real one is bursting to get out. Andy's mk.26 G-CEIN.

To finish, another one of Kerr's Bulldog G-CBBT

My thanks to ACS Flight Training, Alba Airsports, Kerr and the Scottish Aero Club for making it happen last night and we raised a bit for money for Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance in the process. Thanks guys.
There are a some larger sized pictures on my Flickr site, https://www.flickr.com/photos/wwshack/ including some before and after shots of the 12800ISO test shots.

A photo you don't see very often, a flexwing at night.
Note the slight blur on the tips of the sail as it catches the evening breeze.

After two days of cancellations, the night-flying went ahead last night.

I could have cried when I chimped the picture to discover that I had made a rookie mistake and left the image stabilisation on... and then I discover it wasn't the lens that was shaking it was the whole aircraft. I had caught it at that moment when all the cylinders had not fired properly and it was giving itself a good shoogle.

Brilliant set of pic's.

I did my engineer licence training at Scone (AST) and still like to stop by there every now and then if we're up at Perth. Great little airfield to just stop and watch the goings on.
