Air Britain Fly In - 30 June 2018

Post by Blackbird »

I made the short trip to North Weald for the fly in. There were a few attendees of note, but the anticipated Harvards, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the type didn't materialise. Only "Wacky Rabbit" was there offering flights for some £300-400 for 20 or 30 mins - and it was on the ground the whole time I was there.

Good to see the Skymaster - they are trying to raise money to preserve it but I don't know how much success they're having.

A rather nice Jungmann - one of the more interesting visitors.

I took the opportunity to get a shot or two of PT going into the office for the day!

Probably the most interesting arrival - this PZL built Yak-12M

This is a bit of a rarity - a Porterfield Collegiate - no, I'd never heard of it either! The only example in the UK and one of some 40 survivors of the 400 built.

The commentator said there was something of note about this Zenair - but know not what!

And finally this Aircoupe - pretty, but slightly strange looking!

All in all an enjoyable and relaxed day at an historic airfield in the (very) bright sunshine.

Yes a most enjoyable day in bright sunshine mitigated by a strongish wind. Unfortunately the wind was blowing across the runway which I'm sure had an affect on the visitor numbers. It also made for some interesting landings!

The AB tent had the usual book sales and I bought three Putnams, in immaculate condition, for £10!

A good day out
