Yeovilton Air Day 2012 - 23rd June

Re: Yeovilton Air Day 2012 - 23rd June

Postby Phantom ACE on Wed 13 Jun 2012, 3:17 pm

Thanks Andy, thought that might be the case after seeing the role demo was still listed on the Flightline website, some new static and flying additions on the update as well.

I see that the Sea Vixen is still listed...Any further news on that ?

Participation Update:
King Air 200 - Royal Air Force - Static
Meteor T7 - Classic Aircraft Trust - Flying
Vampire T55 - Classic Aircraft Trust - Flying
Venom FB1 - Classic Aircraft Trust - Flying

Following changes to the existing line-up due to various reasons:
FN NH90 Caiman - Static only
Sea Vixen - Cancelled
RCAF Challenger - Cancelled

We are awaiting confirmation of an extremely large aircraft, rarely seen flying at airshows. We will keep you posted if there are any developments. Fingers crossed!!

Great classic jets additions but a shame about the sea vixen.
Also about the NH90 going static too - that would've been a great flying participant :(

Shame about the NH90 but not that surprised about the Sea Vixen as there has been no news on it since the accident and if it was up and about ready for next weekend we would have heard about it before now, glad to see they have added another 3 jets to the flying display though as it was looking quite empty.

Wonder what they could mean by 'We are awaiting confirmation of an extremely large aircraft, rarely seen flying at airshows', perhaps a C5 Galaxy

Possibly civil if it's rarely seen at airshows ? A380 ? sure I heard talk of an AN124 somewhere.

"extremely large and rarely seen"........I will go with the already mentioned 380 or an Antonov.

Be nice for me if it is a South African 747.

Missed Air Day that year as I put myself on duty overnight, and got called to a large fire over the border in Devon less than an hour before my shift finished.

Didnt get released from the job til after dinner, and by the time I got home it wasn't worth going.

Risk of the job, but I've made sure I kept that weekend free ever since!

If the VC10 :worship: does turn up as a [nice  ] last minute edition, then that will 100% make up for not seeing the Sea Vixen or 558 at the show.

This large aircraft could be one of four I reckon:

1. An-225 - Highly unlikely though, Yeovilton doesn't exactly have wide taxiways to accommodate it
2. An-124
3. C-5A/B Galaxy
4. A380

Most likely an AN-124, which will probably arrive and do a few flypasts and land. With a few Merlin's ready for collection nearby, i would say this is the most probable bet.

Very highly unlikely to be the BUFF considering theyve already cancelled...

Which Merlin's are ready for collection? I'd say the Saudi's but they're not even painted...

I'm told one of the finished 101s has departed and will be exported directly elsewhere - I'm guessing that means EMA or STN? (Stansted)

ZR337 (Turkmenistan) is at Stanstead and should fly out tomorrow? ZR336 (The first Turkmenistan) is still in Primer and under-going test flights.
I can't think of any reason a AN-124 would be in for AgustaWestland...unless the rumoured AW169 bits and pieces are turn up from Italy!

ZR337 departed at the weekend for Stansted and will be flown out in a AN124 on Wednesday, although I did not see it today I am told that a white AW101 did a p/d at VL with a Westland c/s, could be the other Turkmenistan example.

Forget the above 'white' AW101, image on FC shows it to have been a primer example

Must admit i've been wondering about the connection/relevance that a Virgin 747 would have aswell,
would certainly be a bit different though :D

The person who mentioned the Virgin 747 is a friend , I sent him a message and he said he was taking the mick and that it is likely to be a AN124 but how truthful he is being I am not sure .
Guess we will find out on Friday or Saturday ??
