Yeovilton Air Day 2012 - 23rd June

Really really disapointed and absolutely gutted,
The one year I can actually attend the show because its early and now this on top of all the other cancellations. Whats worse, the cancelkation is so late theres nothing to fill the gap i bet.
I think that leaves only the Tornado role demo now for afterburning heavy metal?
Poor Yeovilton.

Just seen the Rafales gone. Gutted I did wonder when the NH90 went from flying to static if the jets would go the same way. I feel sorry for the organisers as there are only 4/5 days to go so not much time to be able to get in anything else from abroad to replace them. I know the AN 124 has been added today very rare and a great item but not the same. I know for alot of people the Rafales were the stars as Yeovilton were the only ones to have FN Rafales Where as the Saudi Hawks (great items first time at Yeovilton) have been/are at RIAT plus most of the other flying items can be seen around the airshow circuit. Just feel gutted for the organisers the list of non flying items through no fault of theirs would be a great display. amongst others Rafales,NH 90,RCAF Challenger, Vulcan,Sea Vixen etc
Again i am not having a go at the great people of Yeovilton just letting off steam

Gutted.
kudos to Yeovilton as clearly they have worked their socks off this year, fighting against everything that has gone against them.
However, I have a small boy going who really, really wanted to see the Vulcan and Typhoon. The Rafale was a good alternative, in a 6yr olds eyes, but to be honest, its fast jets he wants to see. Exotic transports, in all honesty, however big and lumbering, do nothing for either of us....
I gave him a choice of RIAT or VL and I was pleased he went for VL, but I feel gutted for him...
As I said, even more gutted for the folks at VL, I know its' not their doing, but jeez.... :wall:

Wow, I was excited reading about the AN-124 and then gutted reading straight after about the Rafale's cancelling. Bad luck for Yeovilton with so many big name cancellations this year.

Damn ......what a blow. Love Yeovilton shows but my own personal preference is for mil jets with a lot of noise and speed. Looking very light on that front now I am affraid. Still........got my tickets, the caravan is ready to go and I got a long weekend off even without fast jets so in typical british fashion we will just grin and bare it!

Has anyone seen the weather yet?.........I have.........and you thought you were depressed at the cancellations!

Thursday: ok in the morning, but rain coming pm.
Friday: rain still in the morning, clearing after lunch,
Sat: To early to say, mixed maybe,
But living in the South West, you cant tell until the day, it can change so quick, clouds coming or help up over the moors, I hope not to bad

Yeovilton arrivals are thru history a very hit and miss affair!.....I am usualy in the field by about 9a.m myself, but others get there way before that. Its all in short spells usualy.....a lot of inbounds in an hour then a long gap of nothing, then perhaps a rehersal or two then a few more inbounds. Don't forget at least one...often two...assault rehersals during the day as well.
Have seen some fantastic Fridays there and also seen some absolutely dead slow days too!

Excuse me for being ignorant but can someone explain why if there is a static Rafale there why can't it display? Also why can't the Typhoon replace the Rafales I'm sure the RAF can stretch across from Lowestoft it's not far in a fast jet!

There are designated display pilots. If the Rafale display pilot isn't at Yeovilton, there's no display.

The Typhoon Demo is already displaying at 2 other events the same day as Yeovilton so I guess that's their limit.

Hopefully next year will be a return to form especially as there wont be a certain event being held in Florennes that has bagged the majority of the fast jet demo's this year.

Sorry to hear that for you guys going to Somerset, a real shame. I'm afraid it's the same old story - go head to head with a big European show and you're going down on the fast jet/exotica front. Waddo has dropped lucky very this year......

Shocking this year. Organizers should hang their heads in shame. You are there to organize a show and you have failed miserably.

That's a bit harsh, they can only get what is available and this year a lot of the fast jets have been taken by Florennes which is a once in a decade event so hardly surprising air arms are choosing to support that instead.

As for the Rafales its the French that cancelled them not the organizers and the Vulcan and Sea Vixen both suffered accidents otherwise they would be attending.

I'm not sure that's fair. The organisers could not have predicted the issues that lead to the sea vixen, vulcan or rafale cancellations. I think the show looks ok. plenty of helicopter action which is fitting for Yeovilton and some nice classic jets.

A statement from someone who obviously has no clue about organising an Air Show... Yeovilton work hard to get what they can and can not help display act cancellations.

Very very harsh. in the unfortunate circumstances that have happened the organizers have done a fantastic job in getting what they can.

Ridiculous and unfounded statement - months and months of work, definitely some disappointments along the way but every effort possible made to present a unique and diverse mix. On that front - and every other - the organisers certainly haven't failed.

Astounding...
