As for the TU-95 Bear, as much as i would like to see this at Leuchars, no chance there, hope am proved wrong though
All the best Dougie

Where did they hear this rumour Dougie? Would be good to see one,but it's highly unlikely given the history etc!
B52 would be good to see again, shame it won't be flying, but if it does appear,I'd be happy, however I have my doubts due to what has been said.It is looking like a really good show so far,all we need now is that bright orangey/yellow ball above us,clear skies and we're laughing!

Stratocaster one of the guys posted something about this on the Fightercontrol forum, and he said
this rumour has been flying about for the last month or so now and from a good source, so will need to wait and see
what happens next, heres hoping though

I'd rather see a couple of Tiffies scramble on a Role Demo then bring the Bear in. Then, when on the ground, have it taxi to park on 04/22 on the opposite side of 09/27 to where the Vulcan/Reds normally park up to be met by some local Regiment guys and gals.

I'll wake up in a minute... :lmao:

A true role demo such as that would be good though - rather than just seeing a couple of Tiffies scream out and land later...

firstly, thoughts with the families and base crews on the tornado collision in moray firth. terrible news.
on the rumour merry go round regarding a B52 and TU 95 for leuchars, not sure the static park will hold those along with what is already pencilled in and what are the usaf plans for attendees.. the base and usaf personnel have said the B52 wont return for varoius reasons.
looking at the flying display cant see many more additions as it looks a full programme already. maybe a typhoon stand up arrival? and we need another fast jet i reckon to balance it out.

I would say it's a certainty that there will be a stand up ceremony for 1 Sqdn as there was for 6 - although it didn't involve a lot of flying, more like a flypast as the ground ceremony took place.

Re the Bear and B-52, if you bear in mind that the microlights, Chippie etc don't take up a lot of space and will likely be on the grass at the back of the crowd area (west end), there's still a lot of apron there to hold bigger items. There's plenty space for at least one of those to be placed there but the question is, will they actually be there or is this just another hopeful rumor, I hope not!

Also, there is the crowd area to the east of 04/22 which holds static also. If you look at the site map below, there's plenty to have a few heavies in there:

Update on the Airshow website :yahoo:

Static

Boeing B-52 Stratofortress

The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress is a long-range, subsonic, jet-powered strategic bomber. The B-52 was designed and built by Boeing, who have continued to provide support and upgrades. It has been operated by the United States Air Force (USAF) since the 1950s and is capable of carrying 70,000 pounds (32,000 kg) of weapons.

KC-10A

The KC-10A is an air-to-air refuelling tanker in service with the United Sates Air Force. Powered by 3 × General Electric CF6-50C2 turbofans providing 52,500 lb of thrust each, the aircraft can reach a top speed of 619 mph and a maximum height of 42,000 ft. The KC-10A has the ability to refuel aircraft using both the ‘Boom’ and ‘Probe and Drogue’ methods, the latter being the refuelling method for RAF aircraft.

KC-135 Stratotanker

The KC-135 Stratotanker provides the core, aerial refuelling capability for the United States Air Force and has excelled in this role for more than 50 years. The KC-135 is also capable of transporting litter and ambulatory patients using patient support pallets during aeromedical evacuations. Four turbofans, mounted under 35-degree swept wings, power the KC-135 to takeoffs at gross weights of up to 322,500 pounds.

It's looking like it's gonna be a great lineup this year. Now only if the rumors about the Bear prove to be true then it'll complete the cold war bombers. Is there any chance of a VC-10 putting in an appearance? I know there was one there in 2010 and would love to catch one before they're gone.

A VC-10 would indeed be lovely.

For similar reasons, I guess my main wish would be for a German Phantom. It would be highly appropriate, given the role played by the F-4 in the base's history, if (almost certainly) the last ever appearance by a German Phantom at a UK airshow happened at Leuchars.

I forgot all about the German F4! it'd be a great addition. Am I right in thinking it hasn't been in for a couple of years now?

I noticed that the Sanicole Airshow in Belgium is the same weekend as the Leuchars airshow, hence the reason for
no show of the Dutch and Belgian vipers this year, but also noticed no Polish Mig or Czech Gripen at Sanicole it would be great
if both could attend Leuchars here's hoping

The Polish 29 tends to only do one UK show per year and, having recently ripped up the skies over Fairford, it would seem unlikely that we'll get it at Leuchars. Still, you never know - its displays in 2006 and 2010 were obvious highlights of both shows.

The second display was 2009, not 2010. As for the Czech Gripen, I believe they don't have a display pilot this year.
