The Polish 29 tends to only do one UK show per year and, having recently ripped up the skies over Fairford, it would seem unlikely that we'll get it at Leuchars. Still, you never know - its displays in 2006 and 2010 were obvious highlights of both shows.

The second display was 2009, not 2010. As for the Czech Gripen, I believe they don't have a display pilot this year.

So it was! False memory syndrome, could have sworn that it was at the 2010 show.

Following on from the Black Mike idea, is that lightning still at the 111 has area? Could that not be hauled onto the static park to liven things up?

The last time i was at Leuchars it was 2004 and sitting in black mikes cockpit was the highlight of my day.
And either 04 or 05 there also was a german F-4 flying . Bonus.

With the exception of some American or Russian exotica (B1, B2, F22, Tu-anything......) I honestly can't think of anything better than a flying F-4, no need for anything spectacular - a couple of low level high speed passes would be wonderful / incredible / amazing [pant wetting smilie].

I completely agree with you even the list of what might beat the F4 at full tilt at 100Ft

I just got back from the bray airshow in Ireland and it was dismal , I was even wishing for anything with an afterburner.

Not certain, but JG71's F-4's may be out of service by the 2012 show, looks like Waddington may have seen their last british show (in the F-4 anyway)......

There was one at RIAT a week after Waddo!

End of June 2013 is the proposed out-of-service date for the Phantoms of JG71. There is talk of an event next year around that time to mark the retirement. So definitely a last chance to see one in Fife.

That's good to know!

I had a scratch about the net but couldn't find anything that definite, just a journo article about them flying at Waddington immediately before their withdraw (should have known better than to believe it), but I now see that there is a press release from the German military stating June 30th 2013...

I've sent JG71 a few begging emails in the past asking about the possibilities / begging for a flying F-4, but all without response - looks like the clock is ticking/has almost stopped for a flying F-4 over Scotland?

The pilot at Waddington said they are planning something for 28th June 2013. He mentioned that they are hoping the "event" will include some form of flying. He also said the new head of the Luftwaffe is an ex Phantom pilot so they are hoping he will ok everything

The downside is the Phantoms are meant to be running out of hours quickly (Rumours going around said they left 2 in Iceland because of hours) So that could hurt Leuchars chances of getting a Phantom hopefully not though

I don't think it’s so much a case of running out of hours (after all, there were rumours of Croatia snapping up some of the German Phantoms as a stop-gap to cover a short-term air defence requirement), more that the existing airframes are not being repaired if they go u/s. As soon as a JG71 Phantom goes 'tech'now, it is simply removed from flying ops. I think they only have about 10 airworthy Phantoms left.

I am still fairly confident that we'll get one at Leuchars, given that there was a Phantom (the same one!) at Waddo and RIAT. It would be lovely if they paid one last visit to an airfield which is so closely associated with F-4 operations.

A Phantom would be a bonus on stills and motion capture,so if it does make an appearance,I will be extremely pleased but I'm not going to build my hopes up.
