Planes TV

I'm not sure how many people out there ordered a DVD from Planes TV of the Leuchars Air Show, but by this time I'd hoped to be watching/enjoying it by now. Especially since I missed quite a bit of the flying display getting into and out of the car park (those queues still haunt me!). I 'phone Planes TV yesterday to enquire as to the whereabouts of said DVD. A rather unsympathetic and uninterested chap at the other end said that 'due to technical difficulties there had been a delay in getting the DVD out'. 'When will I be expeted to receive it?' I asked. 'About anorther 4 weeks' he replied. That's mid December by my reckoning! Has anyone else had such a reply/feedback? I can't say I'm very happy...

I'm not associated with PlanesTV, but I'm a regular (and happy!) customer + subscriber with them.

Quite frankly, I'd have been surprised if it were done already. One should not underestimate the work that goes into the editing of video footage -- I know first-hand and I'm nowhere near their level, never mind the extra amount of work they have with incorporating in-cockpit camera footage etc. Leuchars was quite late in the season, I imagine quite a few other DVDs from earlier on are not ready yet, so I think until you see the likes of earlier airshows popping up...

To put this into perspective, there is a company in Belgium that had to produce 1 airshow DVD of a show the weekend after Leuchars and no one received that one either yet, and that's just one report! The company that does the Dutch airshow also takes more than 2 months I believe and I'm not sure if the Kecskemet DVD is already done. Each of those only have to do one airshow, so you can imagine if you have to do multiple. Add to this that in order for them to have the good relationships with teams that get them interviews and exclusive in-cockpit footage which we, paying customers, all like so much to be part of the report, they probably also have to do some return-"favours" to operators with promo-films etc., all of which takes valuable time. Speaking for myself, when I ordered 2 of their DVDs, I already counted on a wait of 3 months.

I realize, may not be the answer you were hoping for though.

Hi Kevin,

If it was me that answered the phone I'm sorry if I sounded uninterested. I can assure you we are interested in talking to our customers, this is why we make our phone number readily available.

After two of our video editors left at the end of September, we have recruited one editor and hope to have another starting soon. It does however take time to get a new member of staff trained and settled in.

We are writing to all our customers who have ordered Leuchars to apologies for the delay and it will unfortunately be mid-December before the DVD is ready.

I hope that you will enjoy the DVD when it arrives.
