Hedgerow - A15 end

Have they cut the hedgerow or has it been left to grow like last year? Can anyone who's been to Waddington recently say how high it is above the fence, what size of step ladder would you need etc?

I haven't been recently but have been told it's currently just under 10' in height.

drove past last night and its ridiculous tbh. 5 steps minimum needed if they don't cut it and even then you'll be struggling if they sink down in ground.

Maybe people should just forget using a ladder to see over and skip straight to the cherry-picker option

Does the hedgerow stretch as far as the taxi-way? Never walked that far down the fence line in previous years and wondered if that might be an option. If not I'll just have to get them coming in over the road before they get obscured by the hedge!

At 0.49 you can see the treeline down at Harmston. The bush will be just above that from where you stood

I think its a good idea to keep the hedges high i also think that over the weekend the local police should move people on who stop there make the who are a no stopping zone

Most of those who are outside on the arrivals days will have already paid the entry fee, parked on base and decided to walk outside to make use of the better lighting conditions, particularly until early afternoon when the sun is more favourable for on base shooting. You will never be able to stop people watching for free on the show days if they don't want to pay to go in. Before you ask, I already have my ticket for Saturday.

Does make me laugh that back in the 70s, when 4 squadrons of nuclear bombers were sat there ready to rock at a moments notice the place was surrounded by a 5 foot wooden fence. (admittedly the dispersals did have very tall metal fences with motion sensors...)

Since when has it been ones of the RAF's roles to make sure their hedges are trimmed low enough for photographers to shoot over them?

Since when has it be the RAFs role to fight wars that have nothing to do with us. That doesnt stop them doing it though.. (But thats a whole different argument )

All organisations have an obligation to keep their grounds in good order. Also, surely big, thick Hawthorn bushes are ideal nesting areas for birds - perfect on a busy airfield.. And what if one of the throng of enthusiasts injure themselves on the thorns whilst looking over the fence - no pain, no claim...
