Tricky one for the organisers we now know that they have a least invited everyone which is great. On the flip side we now have a list to tick off as they decline. Used to enjoy arriving at Finningley airdays not knowing what to expect as was rarely dissapointed.

Looks to me as though this is going to be an extremely challenging year for the organisers.

Fast jet displays around Europe look to be very thin on the ground and the teams generally seeming to be doing fewer displays each. I believe it has already been mentioned on one thread that Waddington clashes with at least one European display (?France) that rules out some participation, the chances of US participation must be very low, the loss of team Viper and a clash with Legends that will see a large chunk of the warbird fleet otherwise engaged.

Best of luck guys

It may clash with legends, but to be fair warbirds on that scale have never really played a large part in Waddington so it shouldnt effect us to greatly. Many of the Duxford based operators have already been in touch to offer their machines up as they will happily do two displays each day. 2012 will be a challenging year, but then so will 2013, 14 and 15. Unless things change rapidly and airforces suddenly begin to expand again  then there willl be less and less variety each year. Sadly I think airshows as we know them currently, have a limited lifespan and will have an out of service date in the future.

Silentflight,

I think you are absolutuely correct, I am just unsure how quickly things will be forced to change.

For that reason alone, it is a great dissapointment to loose Team Viper, acts like Team Viper could very much be the future. The difficult part is of course that somebody has to find the hundreds of thousands (?) a year to operate a team of Hunters.

I can only assume that the residents of Duxford/North Weald/Old Warden etc will come to have an ever growing role on the UK airshow scene.

Were they asked with genuine sincerity?

I should imagine we'd be lucky to get the French, Germans or any other Eurozone countries under the present climate. As for South America, given the Falklands situation....

What I still don't fully understand, is how with the lack of comparative airshows to place demand on the services compared with the Halcyon era of the 1970s, for example, the R.A.F. still can't manage the one offs for Waddington. They do for Leuchars, albeit home based. But I recall Finningley got a 4-ship of Lightnings from Binbrook in 1972. This was a one off, couldn't one of the Coningsby squadrons provide something similar, just to pull in the slack. Such adhoc stuff needn't be for anything else, just for the R.A.F. events. Thinking of more recent times, 25 sqn always managed a 4-ship of F3s for Folkstone!

As for the future, with the Americans refocusing on the Far East/Pacific, and given the quite plain criticism of NW Europe's inertia over such matters as their collective defence and Security. The future could hold any kind of developments, especially with the way things are around the Globe at present.

I don't see why not. Admittedly it's a long shot, seeing as though the Chileans aren't prolific airshow participants these days. But the Chilean Navy have P3s and I suppose there was always a chance they'd go "actually why not, lets send a machine on a long range exercise and do some work with some European air arms while we're in that part of the world".

Dear Silentflight + team

If the Korean Air Force Black Eagles are planning to come to RIAT and Farnborough then what are the chances that you will be able to get them to demo at waddo too? same goes if the rumors regarding the Japanese team

Also please try to get the new 'al fursan' team from the UAE if you are in negotiations with them, the reports of their display at the Dubai Airshow 2011 and at Abu Dhabi last year were good.

Also will you be inviting the Breitling Jet Team this year?? their last display at waddo was excellent I thought.

Best wishes for 2012 - will be there!!

Please add Saudi Hawks to the above list if they decide to come back to the UK in 2012. I remember that originally they had indicated a few years back that they wanted to come to the UK it was at waddo, but it was RIAT last year not waddo, but hopefully if they decide to make a return trip then waddo may be able to have them.

Good Luck

Let's hope they have improved too :tumbleweed: Thought they were rather average at RIAT last year, when they got to display that is

Simply means the Jordanians have confirmed they will be participating, provisonally with the Falcons. So yes they are participating with something, at the minute it is suggested the falcons.

Dear Silentflight & Team

Well done on getting the Royal Jordanian Falcons for 2012. I thought that they have improved their show when I saw them at Waddo last year. However, for the commentary can you please get the commentary team to play some arabic music to accompany their display? - sounded great at RIAT! (and Dan's Commentary was great!!!).

Also Silentflight can you give us any update if you are also working to get any of the rare stuff from the middle/ far east that are being speculated to attend RIAT a week after waddoo? Namely Korean Black Eagles and the UAE Al Fursan Team and Mirage 2000, possibly Saudi Hawks??

best wishes for 2012

BossMan, many thanks for your comments, as for music, its down to what ever the guys bring with them, I suspect all of their stuff hadn't quite caught up with them when they first arrived with us last year.

As for everything else. We are in discussion about everything mentioned, things elsewhere move very slowly as soon as we can confirm or deny anything we will let you all know. Things at present are looking fairly good, but who knows what will happen!

Dear Silentflight
"musak" at Airshows must be avoided whenever possible The Jordanian Falcons might be an exception, because of their limited size and presence, but please not when any jet or large singletons or Jet teams are performing. In My opinion, don`t go to an airshow if you want music. :

No it's better than that - Waddo's getting the Hornet and Cougar! Result. Don't think we've had a Swiss Super Puma/Cougar display in the UK since RIAT 2000?
