Anyone know how soft the ground is at Old Warden after yet more rain?

Yes weather does look favourable, possibly golden light from behind the spectators with cloud behind the planes. I really hope to be able to go - but with the amount of rain that has fallen and with showers forecast for Thurs and Fri I just wondered how soft the ground was in that part of the country.

Just checked the Shuttleworth website:
PLEASE BRING SUITABLE FOOTWEAR AND BE PREPARED FOR ADVERSE GROUND CONDITIONS DUE TO RECENT INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS
So at the moment it's on but going to be soggy underfoot. I wonder if they will have to change the normal car parking arrangements?

What are the "normal" car parking arrangements? I've never been before.
Does "be prepared for adverse ground conditions" mean I might have to dig my car out of a bog?!

'Normally' you would park on the grass between the hangars and the main runway - it'll be interesting to see how they cope tomorrow. I've been watching the forecasts all week, and took the plunge this morning, so we'll be travelling down from Yorkshire in the morning - aiming to get there for around 11-ish. If anyone closer is willing and able to text me a conditions report first thing, I'd be grateful!

From memory, there's plenty of other space around the site where it would be possible to park cars etc, but that would detract from the 'family picnic' feeling that I always enjoy at that airfield!

I live about thirty miles from Old Warden and we have had a further 7.5mm of rain since midnight.

Much as I love Shuttleworth and appreciate what a terrible season they have had I do wonder if this is going to be a pleasant experience.

Also, it has to be said, the programme is thin to say the least. It is currently forecast to be almost calm in the evening so the Edwardians should be able to fly but if not then it could be really disappointing.

Well, after 31 years together I've actually managed to get my wife to agree to come to an airshow, so we'll be there come hell or high water. She's looking forward to the birds of prey and the Swiss garden though, so tbh the participants in the display aren't going to be the make or break of our day!

The Flying content is always less for an evening show hence the cheaper entrance fee

Not been to the gardens, but the Birds of Prey are excellent.

Apologies for not saying hi, but I didn't see your post(s) until we got home!

Had a great day though, and my better half also enjoyed herself (or so she said!). I'll put up a few pics later....

The Habicht Glider display was incredible, and nice to see the Edwardians up and about, even if the evening sun was a bit washed out by high cloud.

Now, how to get her to a fastjet display :D
