It might be but I thought it had been grounded by then (again).

I saw G-ACSS on its first flight after restoration in early 1987 and it made a few appearances at Hatfield, Mildenhall Old Warden and Farnborough in 1988 but I thought it was grounded after that.

N88XD is a full-scale replica of G-ACSS and certainly looks the part.

I was chatting to one of the stewards last week, and he said they were hoping that it would be back in the air for next season. All that needed to be sorted was CAA paperwork :dizzy: Whilst I do hope this proves to be true, it did have that overwhelming sense of deja vu! does anyone know anything further or different?

Just been reading about the Comets status in the latest SVAS Prop Swing magazine that arrived a few days ago. It states that the Comets undercarriage modification paperwork has been approved BUT the permit to test fly paperwork is still to be completed & the final maintenance checks must be carried out in between the busy display preparation schedule. I'd say the October show (with it's air racing theme) is probably the most realistic chance of seeing it displaying in 2014 although 2015 is probably more likely. We'll have to wait & see. Last time I saw the Comet fly was at Mildenhall's Air Fete so It's been a while!

Key Publishing Forum has news that the aircraft has flown today. Fantastic news if true.

Have received the same info from someone who lives closer to OW than Key Publishing so hopefully the report is correct.

Posted here for anybody who hasn't already seen it. Great news!

I heard she would be based out of Duxford due to their runway being longer, is this still the plan?

I heard the same however never officially. I'd find it odd as Shuttleworth's grass runway isn't exactly tiny but if that's what they deem safest, that's what they deem safest have to wait and see. Just glad to see it airborne, never seen it fly before.

The comet is scheduled to fly at 2 shows this season, the Shuttleworth Pageant on the 7th September and the Season Finale: The Race Day Airshow on the 5th October.

My reading of the Race Day show is that it will be on static display - have I missed something?

Well it says "...and the majestic Comet (winner of the MacRobertson Air Race), which will be on static display", which does suggest they're not planning a flying display.

Actually I can't find where it definitively and unambiguously says on their web site, or Farcebook page... that it will actually fly at the September Pageant either.

Ah - I didn't read the blurby bit, just the aircraft listing. Silly me.

Wait a minute...

https://www.facebook.com/ShuttleworthCo ... =1&theater

Our DH88 Comet will be taking off to display at our:
Shuttleworth Pageant airshow on 7 September
Our Season Finale: Race Day Airshow on 5 October.

So their facebook page says both shows...

"Taking off" is ambiguous... and "display" isn't the same as "fly"...

But whatever - I'll be at both shows anyway, so if it flies at either/both I'll see it :-D

Subject to obtaining it's permit to fly as opposed to it's permit to test. It is due to "fly" and "display" at both the listed shows, subject to weather and serviceability (as with any aircraft listed for the shows).
