Just same usual stuff flying with the odd exception - I'm just the type of person who likes variety and so shuttleworth is a venue which I will visit once every other year - not knocking the events as they are good, just not for me.
That is a very fair comment. For me though, Old Warden displays never feel like airshows, more like really friendly, relaxed gatherings with the bonus of beautiful, gentle aeroplanes in front of you. It is the experience which is unique - you can park 10 mins before flying no problem, you can wander into the Swiss gardens for an hour or 2 to lower the blood pressure from a stressful week at work. You can see a really large and fascinating collection of birds of prey plus a nice and informative show from them. You can wander into maintenance hangars and smell oil and grease, and doped fabrics. You can picnic right by the fence - you are not jostled out of the way by rude people who want that perfect shot, as at other shows. Kids will not tread on your feet on the fence line (don't get me wrong I love children!). You can see the fabulous old flying machines start up, their ancient engines puffing magically into life. You can see the smiles all over the pilot's faces as they taxi past so close you can almost reach out and touch them. You can watch superb displays that are closer than most shows, all on a dog leg meaning great shots if that is what you want. You will not see a hurricane closer at any UK venue. And go to any evening show where, weather permitting, you can see man's oldest flying machines make some graceful hops into the blood red evening sky, some even staying up for much longer - weather permitting of course! Sorry if I am waxing lyrical here, but if you have never been to an Old Warden display, I urge you to go. Go on a nice afternoon of evening, and you'll see what I am talking about. It is so much more than an airshow, and undoubtedly one of the best 20 pounds you are ever likely to spend. The participation list never seems all that important to me. Hope the runway dries out soon... Can't wait
