Shuttleworth Display Dates 2016

Post by WG655 »

Here is the most recent provisional schedule for next year's shows:

Sunday 8th May - Season Premiere
Saturday 21st May - 'At home with Shuttleworth' (May)
Sunday 5th June - Fly Navy
Saturday 18th June - 'At home with Shuttleworth' (June)
Sunday 3rd July - Military Pageant
Saturday 16th July - 'At home with Shuttleworth' (July)
Sunday 7th August - Shuttleworth Edwardian Pageant
Saturday 20th August - Flying Proms
Sunday 4th September - Wings & Wheels
Sunday 2nd October - Season Finale: Race Day & Roaring Twenties

Fly Navy and Season Finale sound most appealing personally. I'm assuming 'At home with Shuttleworth' is a re-branding of the evening events?

Thanks for posting this.

I certainly want to do one of the evening events next year - they keep clashing with other things so that I miss them  and the finale sounds good, that's already added to my calendar

All they are lacking is a holographic Vulcan.

I guess it's primarily just the Collection's aircraft for those events, no Uncovered event next year either, unless that's the bit being re-branded and expanded to 3 events?

The 'Fly Navy' event has so much potential;

- Get both Seafires in formation with the Sea Hurricane? :yahoo:
- Hunter GA11 in RN markings from St Athan to display?
- Maybe both RNHF Swordfish?

With a number of resident aircraft at Old Warden with naval connections, I very much agree! Other external suggestions:

- Hawker Nimrod pair

- TFC Corsair & Wildcat

- A modern-day naval asset or two - perhaps the Black Cats (Pairing of FM2 Wildcat and Wildcat HM1 anyone?)

- Bristol Scout

With respect Brian, I didn't say that 10 air shows at one airfield wasn't good, I said that no Uncovered or LAA Party in the Park wasn't good. These two shows are very different to any others on offer anywhere. They show aspects of aviation that are normally ignored by show organisers and it's a great pity that they have been dropped from the calendar.

What would be good, very good indeed, would be if Duxford saw that there is a market in air shows and also had at least one show per month May to October.

Does anyone know if a season ticket is available for the 2016 season?

Yes, isn't it time they made their Wildcat airworthy? I believe it's going to be finished as a Royal Navy Martlet?

Still can't stop thinking what a bizarre, almost irrational purchase that was.... :dizzy:

They've not started on the Wildcat yet have they?

Will the Spitfire be back next summer?

Nope - the Wildcat's still engineless and stored in one of the hangars. I believe it needs major work (almost on a level of inspection equivalent to that carried out on the Spitfire) before it can fly again, so don't expect to see it flying for a number of years yet.

Spitfire should be on course to fly next year with the progress it is making - although just how early on in the season that can be achieved remains to be seen. Isn't far off! Would anticipate the Sopwith Triplane & Camel also flying next year.

The Lysander has been grounded this season pending a major repair to the wishbone on the undercarriage. Given how important the wishbone is on the aircraft (as a main supporting structure for the wing), if the part cannot be salvaged and a spare cannot be located then it may result in a longer-term or even permanent grounding. Look at the trouble Air Atlantique have had trying to find parts for a considerably smaller support strut for their Twin Pioneer.

Seems to me that it was a really good buy, assuming of course that its weaknesses were known and reflected in the purchase price. It will take a good few years to get it airworthy but the Shuttleworth always think long term.

Can someone else check and confirm other than the Flying proms there are no evening shows advertised on Old Wardens web site?

I thought the Saturday shows were almost exclusively evening events.

If the 2016 calendar at the top of this thread is anything to go by, there should hopefully be a few of them throughout the season as usual. Surprising to not see any mention of them on the website to date, however - perhaps the provisional listings are still being finalised.

Intresting and maybe or maybe not Conected but the thread about Shoreham and the what the provisional report says, is this an affect - see the comment about night shows, is an evening show classed as a night show? Is this an immediate affect or are the dates not yet up??
