Getting close now, is the DH9 going to be ready in time?

Is there any news on when SC's Camel will fly?

Both will look great when they make it into the air.

Last time I saw it, it had no engine. If I recall correctly the Camels engine is currently in the triplane, so they can try and get her flying while they fix its own engine.

Nope triplane has it's own engine and the runs have been very successful with a correct triplane propellor, the previous prop was a camel design, the camel's engine is at the reassembly stage.

Visitors not as before infact, as there has been the addition of an Avro 504K replica. Whether this is the Sywell or Henlow example remains to be seen.

Does anyone have any definite updates on the Nine? Would desperately love to see it but don't think it's flown yet.

Last time I asked recently about the Dh-9 they said they were still working on the engine and fuselage, and obviously paperwork .

Why the GWDT haven't been added is a bit of a strange one, especially given the acts they've booked this year.

Would be nice to see. Especially if they parked their Sopwith Triplane next to the GWDT's replica.

Morning, first post on here.
With the wind speed and direction forcasted for the weekend is it likely that the Comet will fly on Sunday?
Looks like we will have a strong crosswind again. (was there for the season opening)

I don't know the x-wind limits for the Comet, but am fairly sure it can only use the main (N-S) runway. Forecast looks pretty breezy for Sunday so may be a good chance it will stay on the ground. Also the WW1 types won't tolerate much (any?) x-wind but have a much shorter takeoff / landing roll so can either use the second runway or just into the headwind across the field as needed.

However...

Is there the potential that just the sheer strength of the breeze could limit the flying quite significantly, given the types on show? Are the WW1 types at risk of being limited by a strong and potentially gusty breeze?

We're keen to make the trip having had the disappointment of the season opener (crowded, Red Arrows aborted half way through, display distances etc) and not being able to make the last two shows. But it's quite a hike and now the lad's turned 16, double the cash too.

Would be interested in people's views...a washout looks unlikely, but could it be a blowout...?

On several occasions I have cancelled trips to air shows based on the weather forecast, only to kick myself after hearing from those that went and seeing their pics.
The strong winds are forecast mainly in the NW of the country and may well calm down by late afternoon/early evening in time for the older types to fly.
I would rather have breezy and sunny with the clouds being shifted than dull and overcast with no wind.

Current forecast is for a 17-14mph wind at a cross wind to the runway.

The Edwardians won't fly in that wind but I'm not certain about the rest. The good news is that the runway use will be beneficial to photographers :-)

The worry is the gusting wind speed... 34mph!

I wish i knew what they class as crosswind as West South Westerly could be said to be more along the main runway than across it.
Think i might just go, not so bothered about the Edwaradians but badly want to see the Comet and will only be home for 1 more chance this year and would almsot be worse to stay home due to wind to then find it have flown.

If it's not directly down the runway then there is an element of crosswind, there is a formula for calculating what that element is (with 90 degrees to runway being 100%) but it's early and I can't be bothered to look it up

With the DH88, the wind is not in its favour, reading an article here: http://www.iaopa.eu/static/CKFinderJava ... /feb15.pdf

It appears the crosswind limit from the right is less than from the left, the wind on Sunday will be from the right.
