Evening Airshows

Postby LN Strike Eagle on Sat 13 May 2017, 7:40 pm

Only a week away from the first one of the year and no aircraft are listed on the website. Anyone know what's due, or will these shows just be Collection aircraft?

It's quoted on the web page as the best from the collection.

Was about to start a thread asking the same thing. Hopefully someone can shed some light on what's happening, Shuttleworth haven't really mentioned it on their social media platforms either.

Hello All

Yes the show will be collection Aircraft Only, it is designed to aid earlier types of aircraft of the collection such as the Edwardian's and other WWI types to provide near perfect flying conditions. Also the show provide's interesting photo opportunities for bidding photographers to capture.

With just the collections' aircraft, it would be nice to know which ones.

The shows that are made up purely of the collections own aircraft the line up tends to be pretty fluid. At the flying proms last year the weather dictated that the Edwardians would not be able to fly so alternatives were dragged out (can't remember specifics). The team will usually decide on the day what is able to display.

Yes it a bit of a shame. Looks like the weather will clear up for the flying but the wind will be quite high.

Did anyone go? How was it? Conditions here in Essex were fantastic, albeit a tad breezy.

Got soaked. Sea Hurricane, Mew Gull, Tomtit, Avro Tutor, Chippie and Tiggie all displayed. Sea Hurricane and Lysander got airborne but landed without displaying due to the weather closing in.

Not a bad effort considering!

They did well considering the conditions. I didn't think anything would display after the Tomtit anyway, had a slight list on landing and ended up with it's right wing touching the ground. Engine was stopped and after a rush over of emergency vehicles, was pushed up to the engineering hangar. Had a good look over it after the show was cancelled and to the untrained eye couldn't see any damage, happened at a very low speed.

Doesn't sound very good. Fingers crossed for better weather at Fly Navy.

If the weather behaves, three Hurricanes rounding the bend in perfect golden light should be one of the moments of the season...

Does anyone know what the current arrangements are for closing footpaths around the airfield on show days? I'm not looking to freeload the show, but to have a walk around the locality in the morning, before going in. I'd imagine if there are closures it's only in the afternoon, but I can't find any information anywhere.

Thanks.

Hi,

I'm surprised they are not on here: http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/l ... orary.aspx

The road signs say the road closure is in effect during airshow time, so I would guess the footpaths would be similar, as they will have to pay to employ security staff to enforce this.... might be worth ringing the office at Shuttleworth???

Cheers

Does anyone know what's wrong with the D.H.51, as I can't remember the last time it flew?

Flawless - wrapping at 2152 after a final hour including the Boxkite, two Avro Triplane displays and four Deperdussin hops was pretty magical!

I've been going since 1994, and that was up there with the best of them. No UK venue can touch Old Warden at the moment.

An obscenely good airshow.

The best just set the bar even higher for the rest.

Still buzzing, and editing photos at 4am! Damn you, Shuttleworth!!

Nothing is wrong with it, It was on the flightline for the wet evening show and was run fine

Perhaps the latest ever finish to a UK air show? Unless anyone can think of a later one?
The only negative from a great show was commentary, it did not inform enough about what was going on, timings etc. Also really quiet where I was, could barely hear it. But only a small complaint... generally it was a really memorable display.
