Viggens and Valiants

Viggens and Valiants

Postby Fred Martin on Wed 10 Mar 2010, 8:01 pm

These scans are a little more modern than the shots I usually post , but having accidentally come across these in my collection I could not resist showing them . Yet another magnificent brute of an aeroplane now sadly missing from our skies (except for the one in Sweden of course). All of these were photographed at UK airshows apart from the last three , which were shot by my long time friend Gunther Kipp .
As for the Valiants you may ask , I appealing to any of you out there who may have photographs of them , mono or colour ,as I have been requested by VTS to produce a slide show DVD of all three V-Bombers as a fund raiser to help in there running costs fot the Vulcan . Obviously ther are plenty of Vulcan and Victor photos around even in my own collection , but finding decent Valiant shots is proving rather difficult . Anyone who can help please PM me .

I shall run out of tissues at this rate Fred.

Viggens were so outrageously cool.

Great shots.
The Viggen looks right in any colours and from any angle. Is is a shame that there are non airworthy although there is a plan for one in the states.

I'm hoping he meant to dry his eyes Ben! Hoping...

Superb quality scans, just brilliant! And a super-sexy aircraft...no question.

I would like to post some pictures but don't know how. Could someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks. Great shots by the way.

Can't help you with Valiants, Fred - the only one I ever managed to shoot was the one that used to be at Marham. I do also have a shot of the one at Abingdon 50th RAF celebration, but that isn't my copyright.

Anyway, while posting, I thought I might as well add a quartet of Viggens, if you'll permit...

First one is during a highway exercise somewhere in Sweden...

Second is also in Sweden, at a very wet Vasteras open day in 1979... Was only in the country for about 30 hours, but it didn't stop raining the entire time... And we nearly had a collision with a moose...but they still managed to fly about 15 Drakens despite the very low cloud base.

Third one is at RIAT 95...

And the last is at RIAT 96...
