A few from the first IAT at Fairford. Starting with the SR-71.

I was born 10 years too late
What a stuning aircraft - the closest I've got is seeing the one at Duxford. Still impressive though.

And if I remember correctly she came back for a flyby waggling her wings - or was that on arrivals day?

Brings it all back. I remember it sliding through the air with an almost eerie speed. I think the atmosphere could safely be described as electric.
Great pics too - all with manual focus and no autowinder I'm thinking - but no dust spots to worry about either!

Fantastic shot's, unfortunately, I went on the Sunday (I think!!) which was the day that it didn't fly. Love the burner shots, wish I'd have seen it in the air!!

And one of the crew was previously an exchange instructor pilot at RAF Valley on Hawks, after the 71 I beleive he came back to Bentwaters-Woodbridge as a sqn commander flying A10s, What a career and interesting log book that must be!

Absolutely brilliant!
Still my favourite aircraft of all time. Those serpent tongue-like afterburners are immense!
Fascinating aircraft and a great sequence of shots. Thanks for posting.

it certainly was unique wasn't it? the ultimate airshow performer for me, I doubt we'll ever see anything as spectacular again. There are very good shots too.
don't beat yourself up Steve, it didn't fly either show day. A similar thing happened in 89, when it did more or less a full display for the benefit of cameras and FIAT on arrival and stayed on static for the public days.
I'll add half a dozen IAT85 general scenes if I may?..
and wouldn't be 85 without..

Quality stuff, my very first airshow was IAT85 and am so pleased to see some pics from this show. Was awesome to see the Blackbird.

Yes, it was Chris Searle and John "the sound of tortured air" Hutchinson as commentators. I've got a recorded tape somewhere.

Great shots of the Blackbird Derek - one of the greatest planes and greatly missed. Brilliant stuff Nigel - good to see a KC-135 with real engines
Some from me if I may. Think I may have posted these on the old board a couple of years ago jumping on Nigels threads when he was running through all of the old IATs
The Vikings
RF-4C Departure
67th ARRS
F-4E Departure
IS F-4E
EC-130E Departure
B-52 (with proper engines)
And a couple of the SR-71
Not sure this 1985 though
Apologies for quality - all scanned from prints
All the best
