Heathrow in the mid 70s

Thought I would scan a few slides from Heathrow in the years between 1974 and 1977.

Shown on approach in March 1974 is Sobelair Caravelle OO-SRC



On the same day a Cyprus AW Trident arrives



Followed not long after by Argentinian B707 LV-LGP. The airline ran a scheduled service to London in those days



Seen on departure in March 1974 is Iberia B727 EC-CBB



Also lining up on 27R (although I think in those days it was 28R) was a Swissair Coronado



Over on top of the Queens Building a line up headed by Lufthansa B737 D-ABET on the same day in March 1974



Again on approach is Olympic B707 SX-DBO



Lining up to depart in April 1975 is PanAm B707 N406PA



A Seaboard World Super DC8 N8633



Also a British Airways Tristar



Air India B707 VT-DJJ lines up in April 1975



Once more on approach but now in March 1977 is TAP B707 CS-TBA



A300 F-BVGG is also on the approach in March 1977



Climbing out in January 1977 was a National DC10 N81NA an airline soon to be taken over



Also an Air India B747 VT-EBE leaves the ground

This is just before I got interested in planes. About 1976/77 was the start of my slide into the abyss.

We all had a CAM in those days!!!! I always wanted a JP markings though

Those shots brings back happy memories. I wish i still had my slides from that era, Will the person who had them please return them

great memories for me. I was but a sprightly teenager then who spent practically every Saturday and Sunday and Heathrow, plus numerous days during school hols. Must have seen every one of those aircraft.

However, long gone for me, and having 'converted' to military only in my early twenties when I became more mobile with a motorbike and then a car, I have no interest in civvies now. But hey, that was my introduction and when I think of all the places I spotted that are no longer accessible at LHR!!!

Superb , happy days , "real aircraft" in those days. Battling with 35mm and exposure settings ...... wish we had digital then. Always love seeing these old shots , I was teenager (just) and those older aircraft had more charm and character than these damn Airbuses and Boeings today - they all look alike.

Coal burners all of them in the 70's ..... what ozone layer ! oh for a time machine
