Farnborough 1990 Different times

Post by warferry »

Maybe the C.A.A has good reasons when one remembers the good old days. Around this era another Russian beast a AN-22 bring in a spare engine blew a fence down at the show.Mind you I thought it was great at the time, even got a top side of this monster !

Didn't it also land on the grass rather than the tarmac if memory serves me correctly?

Cor that takes me back to my yoof. No big fences on Farnborough road, you could just park on the verge with no issues. I remember waiting for hours for something to emerge from the An-225, think it was a Su-26 in the end. The An-22 was a shock, was at home in Reading when it came droning over, still the only one I have ever seen.Happy days.
Just watched the video of its arrival, jez that was some approach and landing!

Great times indeed Rob here is the "topside"and a poor image of the beast turning tight to give younger members how it was in the days gone by. TerryImageImage

Aah yes I recall that An22 very well. I was asked if I wanted to stick around and see a big Cock and well it wasnt quite what I had been expecting! :pinkwafer:
A terrible approach but great to see (and hear!!) one finally. :joystick: Great stuff.

The An225 was incredibly impressive, brilliant from outside :ninja: as you seem to be, I was there as well, but the bottom picture is printed back to front, as that was the bank out after take off, over what used to be quite a tree covered area. You can tell by the spacings on the serials if you look at the picture above.

As previously reported the big Cock brought in a spare engine for the An124 after its aborted take off on the first Sunday in 1988 when it went pop in that Condor moment!
