ATI June 1992 Boscombe Down
ATI June 1992 Boscombe Down
Well, I'm still trying to salvage and preserve as best I can nearly 5000 images and negatives from the 80s and 90s. Its sad when I come across some that are beyond help, but on the other hand its massively rewarding when some long forgotten gem puts in an appearance
I hope these few from one of the best airshows I've ever been to are of some interest.
Thanks for looking, I hope they are of some interest.

Thanks for sharing these; what a fantastic set of photos! I particularly love the dambusters tonka with four 1,000 pounders
Re: ATI June 1992 Boscombe Down
Great variety of shots there. Nice.

Some great pictures of an amazing show with the highlight for me the arrival of Anatoly Kvotchur in a Su27 Flanker in which, prior to landing, having flown from Russia, he then carried out a full display. To say nothing of the "missed approach" at the same wing level of the landed Tu134, stunning.
So, Tuckat, for your next instalment we all wait.
Thanks.

Great photos. Possibly the ultimate East meets West show with both sides still at full strength. Thing is we all took it for granted, oh just another SP Phantom, LN F-111, A-10 etc.

What a line-up, thanks for posting these. That F-4 is excellent, pick of the collection for me.
There is video of 'that' arrival on a well-known video website, just a stunning piece of flying. Looks like they performed a pairs departure too, which is interesting and not common for such dissimilar types I would have thought. Kvochur was something else.

Very nice - at the risk of sounding like an old codger (which I am btw) - 'fings just ain't the same nowadays!'

It was and we had a German AF 707 in on the Monday as well.
Fabulous show, fabulous weather, fabulous base, fabulous line up. As you can tell, I quite enjoyed the show. Nice post, many happy memories of this one.

LOL, Imagine the outcrys if the modern day Airshow goers saw that happening, Pure Class that was and I can safely say that IAT got me hooked ever since.
Each year I say it will be my last as it get more of the same ol same each year.
I think I had 3 rolls of film that year with me!!
Cheers

Re: ATI June 1992 Boscombe Down
Great to see some good new shots from Boscombe. The two events they had here, especially this one, are my shows that given a time machine for just one event, would be my choice. Not only a perfect airshow in terms of participants, but on hallowed ground that had been so off-limits before (and since!).
I've shared it many many times, but no apologies, here's my view of Kvotchur's arrival on the Saturday afternoon. Lets get facts right, it wasn't a full display he went into, more an abridged one; but the manoeuvres he did do constituted a heck of an arrival.

Re: ATI June 1992 Boscombe Down
Out of all the huge finales and other memorable displays at IAT events over the years, THAT arrival is still my most memorable event, absolutely magic.
It was all very tense through the afternoon as the commentators got snippets of information about if they had left, were they coming at all and close they were.
It encouraged me to make two very memorable aviation trips to Russia.

Re: ATI June 1992 Boscombe Down
Anyone got any pics of the f16s or f18s split on departure day ????
Re: ATI June 1992 Boscombe Down
Great show! Great memories!
Can anyone remember which ATI (90 or 92) when we had THAT departure by the two Danish F-16's? They took off side by side then split, one buzzing the tower then buzzing the FRIAT Grandstand! Rumour had it that the pilots were 'interviewed' by their CO when they got back to base!
