Absolutely superb, great post- such times. I can't help being drawn to that huge 'baby" in the pram in front of the C-131 though, he must be a good Samaritan

Most excellent post and superb scans, I was at the show, well I was living at Lakenheath at that point!

A rich line up of aircraft from across NATO, what particularly strikes me is how easily one can date the period by the propensity for flared jeans on most of the punters together with the popular designer t-shirts and long hair. I wasn't at Mildenhall, but I was at Finningley for the Silver Jubilee, a month later and I had my attestation at Leeds CIO, 30th August, next day, off to Swinderby!

 He's about ten! I had noticed previously, but seeing as you've pointed him out..!

The people are more dated than the aircraft. Your flares had to cover your entire shoe length and notice there are no shorts. Not even on kids.

Never even heard of the YC-14 or 15!? :dizzy:

One of them kinda looks like two C-17s have got together and produced a very ugly baby.

Very nice to see these. That F-16 was an attractive machine, even with its wee nose!

One of my first 'Halls, hard to believe the quantity and quality of the types on show, probably cast a cursory glance at airframes that now you would give your Granny away to see again!

I had no idea the test beds YC14 & 15 were ever flown over here. Assume it was a Farnborough year?

Paris Air Show I believe.

Fabulous quality in terms of content and pictures.

I was definitely there for that show, pity I was only 7 and didn't have a camera

As said they were at Mildenhall prior to Paris, as were the F-16 and A-10 (fatally lost on June 3 at the show) The YC-14 & 15 had both been at Farnboro' the year before...

Thanks for sharing! The C-17 morphed out of the YC15?

Effectively, though the original role concepts differed - the '14 & 15 were competitors in a USAF STOL transport project to replace the irreplaceable Herc! The C-17 came about as a long range ass and trash hauler to replace the C-141 but with better STOL/unpaved performance. Which it has done and admirably so.
