Here we go again down memory lane, to the hallowed ground of RAF Fairford and IAT 91.
Since the sunshine of 1989, the first Gulf war had happened. IAT adopted a Gulf Salute theme, and this presented a stream of pink aircraft and nose art, seemingly straight from operational duty. Add to that a Tiger Meet secondary theme, some decent weather mostly, and we had an IAT that raised the bar once again.
Some old scans then.
19-22 July, 1991.
Starting with a classic Air Tattoo image. I do miss the 'muriel'..
A selection from the static park
leading into some tigers. I'll mix some departure views in too
some general flyers and photo bus views
'The Tigers' representing Swiss F-5s while the Patrouille Suisse were still with Hunters
558 launches after being held for seemingly ages for a live chat to Noel Edmonds on BBC1. Live Sunday afternoon coverage of IAT on BBC1 - different times!
and darkening the sky
more tigers..
Gulf salute, a mixture of arrival, static and departure
some miscellaneous departures to finish
and finally, a little look at the programme. The poster for this event is one of my favourite Wilf Hardy posters of all time, so I've taken that down from my study wall to share that too. I wish I had the big version.
Thanks for looking folks, I hope you enjoyed the ride in the time machine
cheers
Nige.

Great stuff again One of only three Air Tattoos I've missed since my first in 89, and it looked a beauty. Grubby TriStar and colourful Bucc are superb, but star of the show for me would have been that Skywarrior, what a magnificnet beast that is
Interesting to note the static appearance by the Czech MiG-23 Flanker...

Re: International Air Tattoo 91 RAF Fairford
thanks Seamus. I hadn't noticed the mistake in the programme, that's a great spot! I had noticed the announcement 'hoping' to hold an IAT 92 at Boscombe Down. Again, different times.
I'm going to add some more here, its seems a shame not to share.
Here goes, a bit more of everything
tiger tiger tiger..
and some more Desert Storm vets to finish
and finishing with a great fave of mine..
cheers,
Nige.

Another great set. For some reason I have very few photos on the day. Great static though.

Lovely shots, also the only one I've missed since 89 to date, I blame a certain Lady. If I could go back in time I know now where I would be!!
Cheers

superb, Nige!! Great images from a great show. I enjoyed the 74.Sqn Phantom 4-ship the most. And the Gulf Salute-theme was simply the most interesting of all Air Tattoo themes so far (in my humble opinion) - so many awesome-looking, desert camo, war-stained beauties together with all those fantastic tigers...
Thank you for posting all these Air Tattoo-memories!! Excellent photography

Re: International Air Tattoo 91 RAF Fairford
Must admit I've only ever been to 2 IAT Shows 1991 and 1993 but I have to admit this one was my favourite! No disrespect to 1993 but I preferred 1991.
