Re: IAT 1994
Ah the first 'even-year' IAT. Some gems there too. Lots of things that were unique even in the IAT world, not least the Spanish Harriers, Comet and Bear flying.
These are great to see
I can't add any, because I wasn't there! I was at home cradling my brand new baby girl. She's coming up 23 now of course, and do you think I've forgiven her yet?..

You missed 3 IATs because you were cradling Nige's new born baby girl?!! '96 for me though I still managed the Wednesday and the Monday- she's 21 in July... !!

I guess many will say annual tattoos started in 1989 as the Boscombe shows were IATs all but the name, but yes 1993 started the annual theme. That said the team were busy annually really from the word go organising various RAFA shows and of course the big AAC Middle Wallop events and TVS shows at Bournemouth amongst others in non-IAT years.
'94, wow what an event- 46 Hercs were on site/flying for the types 40th, 2 Bears, the aforementioned Matadors Comet flown through a Nimrod sequence and the sight and sound (one day only following suitable headache recovery!) of a Bear in the air. Plus Czech & Slovak MiG-21 displays, Mirage IV, Lansen, ArmyNG Cayuse... just so much stuff...!
You caaan't trust the system... Maaan!

Re: IAT 1994
Yep, on the point of the Boscombe Down shows and IAT status, in the list of participating nations, the Abu Dhabi Air Force Hercules in the static at Boscombe in 1990 led to the inclusion in the list for the United Arab Emirates and not the 2012 appearance of Al Fursan.
1994 was in my opinion the pinnacle, although 1997 runs it close. It was also the year the Beriev Be-12 never made it and the Shackleton tragically crashed on the way from South Africa. Without them, there was so much new stuff to see, Finland made their debut with the mighty Redigo and the Czechs were in full swing by now introducing the awesome Mi24 duo.

ooooh double controversy!
Yes, I do agree that as IAT organised events there's a case for recognising a new nation at Boscombe, but I personally wouldn't. Boscombe 90 wasn't an IAT at the end of the day. Al Fursan it is
And the most subjective discussion ever, and I'm going for none of the above.. 1995 for me!
To have the discussion properly would take several hours and more than a few pints!

Re: IAT 1994
I've really enjoyed some of the posts on here recently, many great memories. I managed to attend all the IAT/RIATS in the 90s, very difficult to pick a favourite.
I've added a few scanned negatives, and tried to clean out the scratches on some of them, I hope they're ok, they are mostly from the Friday and Monday,
Cheers,
Phil

Re: IAT 1994
Always good to see shows covered from different angles, nice posts guys
Variety was king back in the day and even when they're all the same type, it was the Hercules 40th anniversary, at least they generally all looked different.
