IAT Arrivals 1994 - the best

Postby planenuts on Mon 12 Feb 2018, 10:26 pm

Hi chaps,

I know there will be 1001 views on which R/IAT was the best, because we're all different, but to me 1994 was the pinnacle for quality/quantity.
The rest of the 90s shows were almost as impressive, and the Cottesmore 2000/1 were great ones too. Never quite reached those heights since the return.
Probably because the charismatic Cold War types were steadily being retired and replaced, the same with a lot of the Eastern Block's Russian types.

Anyway, here's the first of my 1994 'double-bill'. Part 2 should be everything else except arrivals.......but only rare stuff. Same fuzzy photos as before......

First up, rapid arrival of MoD Boscombe Down Hunters, XE601 and XL612

RAF Tucano in special colour scheme, and serial in rather strange place
ImageIMG_5233 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

MoD Boscombe Down Buccaneer......mmm, Raspberry Ripple :icecream:
ImageIMG_5234 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

USAFE A-10s from Spangdahlem, Germany
ImageIMG_5235 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

Malaysian AF C-130H-30 stretched Hercules.......I think it stayed on the North side the whole week
ImageIMG_5236 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

USAF Kentucky ANG C-130H. It was the 40th birthday of the Herky-bird, and it was quite a turn-out
ImageIMG_5237 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

He-llllllo. French AF Mirage IVP
ImageIMG_5238 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

RAF Canberra from (I think) 360 squadron, Wyton
ImageIMG_5239 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

Italian AF F-104S Starfighter from 5 Stormo, Cervia
ImageIMG_5240 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

Luftwaffe F-4 Phantom in fab old camo, with RAF Hawk chase plane
ImageIMG_5241 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

One of the big highlights.....arrival of Swedish AF Saab 35 Drakens, with those unique double deltas
ImageIMG_5242 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

And they keep getting older.....MoD Boscombe Down Comet 4C with 2 x Harvards.....not something we see every day
ImageIMG_5243 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

Apologies for the quality, but it's a Boscombe Down mixed fleet flypast.....Jaguar, Buccaneer, Hunter and Hawk
ImageIMG_5244 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

That's the way to arrive......Czech AF Tu-134, with gaggle of SU-22 x 2 and Mig-21 x 2
ImageIMG_5245 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

Not to be outdone by their neighbours, Slovak AF arrival with Mig-29 x 2, Mig-21 x 2, and that RAF Hawk again
ImageIMG_5246 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

Really miss these......RAF VC10 in tanker and VIP guises
ImageIMG_5247 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

Czech Let-410 trying to copy the Spanish AF team, landing together......someone forgot to tell them though they are transports :hide:
ImageIMG_5250 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

These guys again, Swedish AF Saab 35 Drakens, on their only visit to Fairford
ImageIMG_5251 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

A third one turned up for the static.....can never get enough of these
ImageIMG_5253 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

But even they were overshadowed by one of the stars of any R/IAT......Swedish AF Saab 32 Lansen......remember the moving van that got in the way ? :wall:
ImageIMG_5254 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

And the hits just kept on coming......Czech AF Su-25, in both shark and frog versions
ImageIMG_5257 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

And again.........Czech AF Mig-21bis. And this was all on 1 day......or was it ? (too long ago....)
ImageIMG_5258 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

Ah, knew I was missing something........Russian AF Tu-95MS......Bear no.1
ImageIMG_5259 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

More of the same. Can't take only 1 photo of this. That Hawk magically turned into a Tornado
ImageIMG_5260 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

Followed by Bear No.2......Russian Navy Tu-142
ImageIMG_5261 by Rupert Kelley, on Flickr

That pesky Hawk....Thank goodness there wasn't a 3rd Bear.....might have seen Goldilocks too

That's all folks. Stay tuned for the next instalment of Rupe's fuzzy photos from yesteryear. C+C always welcome.

Happy snapping chaps,

That they were! I think that 1997 was perhaps my personnel favourite year.
