As it's a wet weekend, I thought I'd share some photos from the 1996 show:

RIAT 1996
Re: RIAT 1996
Great stuff Andy, this was my first RIAT and all I really remember is seeing the tail of the Galaxy as we approached, the Ukranian Flanker and the disappointment of my dad not letting me wander around the static. And of course missing the best of the Harrier 30th celebrations as we were driving out. Nice to see some of the gems I missed out on in the static, such as the Mermaid, May and Cub.

Re: RIAT 1996
More halcyon days, great to see. 'Canopus' flew the Nimrod display routine.. Absolutely lovely.
Didn't some folks pick some strange places to set up their spec? As much as I love the 125, and I do a lot, the family pitched up beside it have picked a somewhat restricted view of the flying display! Maybe they are just massive 125 fans

Really enjoyed this, and your post from 1998. I remember both shows very well, happy memories.
Many thanks for taking the time to share.

Re: RIAT 1996
The thing that struck me after looking at this set for the second time is that there are people in front of the aircraft in most of your static shots and it *doesn't spoil them at all*. The guys waiting and waiting for a clear shot at most recent airshows, who sometimes actually yell at people to move, are missing a trick as I actually really like the genuineness of the passers-by.
Great shots of a great show. I remember those days well!

Thanks all. Much appreciated.
I'll try to look out another year that hasn't been covered. Any requests? I missed only a couple of shows in the late 80s and early 90s, resuming with the outstanding show at Boscombe Down in 1992 (although not strictly a RIAT), and the subject of a number of threads in years gone by.

Great to walk back down Fairfords past with these images and are spot on. Was at the park and view when the 'May' departed setting fire to the parched grass somehow??
Re: RIAT 1996
This was a very warm RIAT - I recall heading back to the car (on base on the eastern side) for some shade on the Sat. And that was during the lead-up to a B-1B take-off, so it must have been hot, I seem to recall there was a B-1 display in '96. Of-course the car was boiling but I turned the ignition on for a blast of the fan!
