Hi chaps,
Here we go again.....another delve into the early archives, with a session of photographing old photos. Wouldn't have a scoobie how to scan these.
The result is fuzzier than Hot Fuzz (plus the musical), but it's always a fun little rollercoaster ride (for those without perfect 20/20 vision anyway).
This was my last year before independence (learning to drive), so was still limited to certain places close enough to the paternal home. Enjoy.
Vallance Byways, Charlwood (before it became Gatwick Aviation Museum)
Sea Hawk XE489. This was No.1 for Mr Vallance. From this, his amazing collection 'hatched' from the old chicken farm

Re: Pic 'n' Mix 1990
Lovely little mix up there!
The Boscombe Down show was outstanding. Just to be there was unmissable in itself, but what we were presented with was quite a gift! The L-39 was much more significant in context than many would appreciate now, as it was that first step of eastern bloc participation that snowballed over the next couple of years. It was listed as Czech Air Force at the time, but it did look like a demonstrator for sure. That show could have been my all time favourite if Air Tournament International hadn't happened, and was even better, in 92. The 1990 show wasn't ATI by the way, it was the "TVS Battle of Britain 50 Airshow, Boscombe Down". ATI is far more concise!
EDIT: meant to add, whenever I see somebody else's shots of a show I attended, I see something I didn't shoot myself and wish I had. I didn't cover everything in the Kodachrome years. But the A&AEE Sea Fury T20 - I don't think I have a shot of that and had forgotten it was there!
Yes, the light at Mildenhall was a photographer's nightmare. And it was uncomfortably crowded at times too. But it kind of had the atmosphere to make up for that. Sadly missed at this time of year.

Re: Pic 'n' Mix 1990
That's a very interesting mix of pics! From today's point of view simply unbelievable how many different types of aircraft you could see at so many airshows not only in the UK but all over (Western) Europe
I have never seen a T-39 in camo and with a 'MAC' on the tail before. Any idea about the unit? 7499th Support Sqn at Rhein-Main...maybe?
Thanks for posting these, simply great stuff!!

N11SN donated it's engine and other bits to G-IYAK when it was made to look like a Yak3. This is the aircraft that lost its wing at Wanaka this year
