A400M into Wittering

Post by hmeasures »

Heard something buzzing about, turned out to be an A400M accompanied by a helicopter and landed at Wittering!

It's been there for a couple of days, they're using it for filming "Mission Impossible 5", it's F-WWMZ.

So Tom Cruise gets one before we do - marvellous.

So that's the reason the airfield can't be used for a week. Great to see we've got our priorities right.

I just tried to walk the fence near the A47.......not good!

Police and private security working together, and they weren't happy. Had a brief row with them, decided to back off!

After I left the fence, I just wandered back to the main road. Didn't stop the RAF Police coming over for a chat! He was a decent bloke though, as was the private security contractor, who also wandered over.

Apparently Tom Cruise was actually there (information NOT given to me by security or police, just to clear that up!), which explains why the base was guarded better than any of the large airfields I've visited, which are only full of unimportant stuff like forces personnel and billions of pounds worth of weapons, aircraft and classified things!

I got some photos yesterday from the drove - Under the landing approach. I'm not sure if I should post them, may ruin some of the plot!!! Haha.

Was the chopper following the A400, which had its cargo door open?

Let's see if they can do that sort of thing better than the end of the James Bond film that Timothy Dalton was in. I forget the name. It's the one with the assassin dressed as a milkman, who had milk-bottle grenades, and killed people by re-programming sliding glass doors!

No there was a bloke stood on the outside of it, with a camera bolted to the fuselage in front of him!

I hope they have to drop some explosives or something out the back in the film, they might have to blow my house up with CGI

Full coverage now in the Daily Mail online. Seems like it was Tom Cruise hanging onto the outside!

That's awesome!!

I suspect that on Saturday, they were filming the interior action, as it was flying around with the loading ramp open, and the camera chopper was following.

Hollywood never worries about the enthusiasts!!

Looks like a stunning day today. I've done my job applications, covering letters and general admin, so I'm now watching the horizon to the south. If they go up again, I'm only three minutes away from the end of the runway!

Well, the camera chopper arrived a few hours ago, so I waited for a bit, and then wandered up for a look. The place is crawling with paps. They're sitting in laybys, crawling through fields.....just everywhere!

Chatted to them for a bit before they moved on. They seemed OK, a bit brash, but OK.

From what I gather, the aerial shooting's done now anyway, so they could be wasting their time!

James Bond is far from Hollywood best of British  Yes that scene they used a C-123 but most of it was a Spanish C-130.
