This morning I attended a short service in the Kent countryside to remember WO Anthony Blumer, a RAAF pilot with No 91 Sqn, who was killed 70 years ago on the 25th June 1944, when his Spitfire Mk XIV, RM617 crashed at Nettlestead as he returned to RAF West Malling after taking part in the destruction of a V1 flying bomb. The ceremony was attended by many villagers and veterans, together with the Group Captain Air Adviser from the Australian High Commission in London. After the service, we were treated to an excellent display by a Spitfire, a most fitting end to a very moving occasion.
