RAF100 Rehearsal

Afternoon all,

An ACN has been published for the rehearsal of the RAF100 flypast, the datum will be College Hall Officers Mess at RAF Cranwell 3rd July at 1200z (4th, 5th and 6th in reserve if needed) just in case anyone wants to catch it.
If this has already been posted please remove as required.

Does anyone have an idea of which direction they will fly over the college? I assume they are using it to mirror Buckingham Palace, so would imagine somewhat parallel to Cranwell's runway?

I'm Not Sure Either To be honest

The QBF Parctice route starts at Southwould i believe then heads North east Clipping Marham then turns a bit more North to head over the main Cranwell building which they use to simulate Buckingham palace i think.

I don’t officially know but it would be safe to assume that because college hall faces south that they will transit in a south to north track much like the practice for the QBF. Unfortunately the ACN doesn’t specifically state the routing as such.
If you looked at google maps on satellite you can see that there’s a nice line leading up to college hall which is easy for the pilots to pick out

If you're taking photos the sun will be in your face from here, I'd recommend going to the west side of Cranwell for better lighting

It is currently 20:15 Local time/BST, 19:15 Zulu time/GMT

Zulu is easiest to remember as Greenwich Mean Time, we are currently on British Summer Time, which is GMT+1 hour. In wintertime we revert back to GMT.

( I know it’s Universal Time but that’s the colonials trying to distance themselves from Greenwich by going on about the Earths axis and stuff !)

It’s not too bad living in a country that has Zulu/GMT for 6 months of the year, just needing to add an hour in summer. It’s one of the perks of living in the country that invented Universal Time

If you always have a clock showing Zulu/ GMT/Universal time on your ship or aircraft it doesn’t matter what local time is.

If you take off from New York at 10:00 Zulu and fly for 4 hours and land in any other State you will arrive at 14:00 Zulu. You don’t need to change the clock as you fly over each State that has a different time to the one you just left. You and the controllers on the ground work in Zulu time. You just need to remember to add or subtract the corrent number of hours ahead or behind to display local time on tickets and arrivals/departures boards for the passengers.

I reckon get to Coningsby by 10.30 local to see the launches then drive to Cranwell; as long as you leave Coningsby by 12 (local) then you should have sufficinet time to find a spot.

Quite! As you really only need Section Leaders in fixed distance trail to complete a practice! All other aircraft & wingmen will formate on those to create the components. Theoretically you could practice timings & spacing for the RAF 100 with as little as 12 aircraft.
About time somebody showed a graphic for the practice & actual day, instead of the 'Sammy side-on' artwork with no detail on element participants?

Yep, I just don't get this secret squirrel guff, just tell us what you're putting up, you do it every year for QBF and other events. There's a thread on twitter about public engagement or rather, lack of and this just serves to underline it...
