Road based operations in Forssa, Finland

Postby Jakesplanes on Tue 28 Aug 2018, 4:54 pm

The Finnish Air Force have released dates for their annual road dispersed exercises. Usually there are two weeks of operations at a different road strip around the country. The first week is known as Baana and comprises transport types. The second week is known as Ruska and is for fighter ops. However, because of Finland being invited to Red Flag in Alaska this year, Ruska has been cancelled and fighters will be joining Baana. Occasionally foreign arms tag along too, for example the Swedes often come with Gripens but there’s no news of foreign participation this year. Dates are 17-19/9 flying from 8.30-23.00 hours. Road strip is on highway 2 just north of Forssa. Usually a pretty epic exercise to photograph, especially as they employ the tail hook on the Hornets, and access is pretty good.
