366th Wing F-15s heading to Lakenheath tomorrow

Post by 138EAW »

Up to 18 366th Wing F-15s from Mountain Home should be staging through LN tomorrow. Shanwick ALTRV starts around 1pm. So will anytime after 2pm likely later though

They are heading to the sandpit, should mean 494th finally returning home

Just noticed this hasn’t been updated.

Last night 18 F-15E arrived.

Plus 8 Super Bugs and a C-2 off the Truman :-)

Any news how long the Hornets will be at Lakenheath?

I heard elsewhere Truman is due to stay at Pommie for 3 days, but the Hornets would be around for 2 weeks...

Cheers.

I wonder how many boxes of Twinkies you can fit on board a C-2...

Six F-22 Raptors inbound now too. Annoyed about the F-18s, could have held off the trip to Marham on Monday had I known these were due.

Conflicting reports about their stay - some say they're here to exercise with the F-15s and others say they'll depart back to the carrier on Wednesday. I think the base will be closed on Monday for a US holiday?

ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Communities in East Anglia and the surrounding areas will continue to see more jets in the sky than usual throughout October, including limited weekend takeoffs for transient aircraft.

There are no plans for low-altitude or night flying in East Anglia during this period.

The increase in activity will result from flying exercises with visiting F-22 Raptors assigned to the 1st Fighter Wing, out of Langley Air Force Base, Va., U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron 11 out of Naval Air Station Oceana, Va., and our NATO Allies, as well as aircraft transiting through RAF Lakenheath on their way to final destinations around the globe.

As one of U.S. Air Forces in Europe - Air Forces Africa main operating bases, RAF Lakenheath serves as an important way station for transient aircraft. In some instances, operational requirements necessitate departures outside of the normal Monday through Friday flying schedule.

Looks like my plans for Marham next week are going to be scrapped in favour of this lot!

Bit longer than that, going by the NOTAM ( times adjusted to show BST ) :
B) FROM: 18/10/05 18:00
C) TO: 18/10/09 06:00
E) AERODROME CLOSED. NO AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL SERVICES AVAILABLE.

Edited to add.....
And the normal Lakenheath F-15s have been spending a lot of time over Wales this week, working with various AWACS & tankers.

Digressing a bit to the F22's, a decent Youtube video has just been put up showing the F22 arrivals into Lakenheath, courtesy of Gung Ho Vids

Seems to have been pointless them having a NOTAM saying they're closed until Tuesday when both yesterday & today they've had further NOTAMs saying they're
OPEN FOR OFFICIAL BUSINESS ONLY

Another day at Lakenheath where closed doesn't mean closed.
( times corrected to BST )
B) FROM: 18/10/08 08:30
C) TO: 18/10/08 10:30
E) AD OPEN. FOR OFFICIAL BUSNIESS ONLY.

Although I see they've now changed the 'closed' NOTAM too :
B) FROM: 18/10/08 10:30
C) TO: 18/10/09 06:00
E) LAKENHEATH AD CLOSED. NO AIR TRAFFIC SERVICES WILL BE PROVIDED

Unsure of numbers deployed but
201 Firebird with a phoenix artwork 40ish marks
2000 Valkyrie with a manga style blonde girl 45ish marks
3000 unnamed but about 45 marks
604 Cadillac Black no art 15 marks
314 sqn a/c Chief with head feather design 50ish marks
204 is 2-oh 40oz (or something like that!) P-51 dropping bombs, 13 marks.
Bomb marks are estimates as my lcd won't stay on long enough to count!!

Some people on FC last week were saying the F-18s will go back to the boat tomorrow. Not sure how true that is, but the Raptors should be here all week.

Many thanks, will try to pop over. Apologies I am sure this question has been asked before but where is the best location to watch movements from?

Do you take photos? If so, the forest entry on the A1065. If not, the viewing area might do you just fine.
