Good Morning V'nam GB Italeri 1:72 UH-34D Sea Horse Finished

Post by Deacon »

OK, a new build for the Good Morning Vietnam GB (can I shorten this to GMV-GB, or is that just sad? )

As mentioned before I want to do three Hueys for this GB so the Sea Horse will be a bit of a break. Hopefully this will make the 'family' portrait interesting as this chopper is bigger than it's brothers.

Cheers

I am having problems locating an interior shot of a Sea Horse ( no, you know I don't mean the little sea creature, behave  ).

I don't suppose any of you guys know where I can locate one on the net, preferably at zero expense  .

Nah mate. I should be finishing the Mowhawk first Ben anyway.

Although F_M sent me some great shots of the interior of a Sea Horse, the basic paint is different from that given for the kit and I had practically finished this before hand. So the interior colour will be darker, but what is stopping me posting some update photos is the console that runs up between the pilots (you can just see it in the external shot). Now on the kit that console is full of buttons and switches. But, I can't find a picture of this to get the colours right.

Things have slowed considerebly I must admit and I doubt whether I will get a third kit finished in week three.

Cheers

Looking at this build keeps reminding me of that scene in Full Metal Jacket... 'Anyone who runs is a VC- anyone who stands still is a well disciplined VC...' 'GET SOME!!!!!'

Looking good so far!

A great scene. It was filmed from a Wessex helicopter flown by a crew from 60 Sqn, RAF in Norfolk!

Kubrick shot a scene in the Norfolk Broads where a Westland "Wessex" helicopter (flown by a stunt pilot) was required to fly low down along a canal (the area doubling for paddy fields) while someone fired a heavy machine gun out of the doors. The scene was shot at dawn and the local police were supposed to have warned fishermen but there was a communications problem. The many fishermen were awoken by a US helicopter apparently machine gunning their "positions". The Wessex itself was subsequently damaged during filming when the tail rotor got pushed into an obstacle while the copter was parked.

Can I just say that no fishermen were harmed during the making of this kit.

Here is the finished article minus the door and MG (the Desk Monster and 'It will be safe here' Monster have been busy).

The cables from the winch I copied from someone elses build of this kit.

The camo is different to the other helicopters I have done so far. Italeri called out Field Green instead of Olive Drab for this one, but I couldn't help using Xtracrylix Vietnam Green.

I must admit that I am a tad disappointed as on the box art the copter is covered in white text for various instructions, yet Italeri haven't included most of it.

Also, advice please. Should the engine grills look black, or green as I have shown them? It won't take long to correct if you guys say black.

Thanks for looking.

The ones I have seen (museums of course! ) have always been the same green as the rest of the cab. I guess under field conditions they may become a bit grubby but they are cooling inlet mesh rather than exhaust.

Hope that helps.

I agree with both of the above. Another nice tidy build, and the grille is the same green as the rest of the cab.
