Tiger Meet GB - Mirage 2000 ++FINISHED++ UPDATE 17/05/12

Post by Deacon »

As I am trying to sort out one or two things with the Hind, I decided to have this build running alongside it.

Image

As you can see the Mirage comes with a RF-4E Phantom in this box set and I hope to make the Phantom up too for this GB.

I am sure I have seen one of you guys post a finished build of this so any tips, especially regarding the camo colours, would be appreciated.

Will this be the build to get me using an airbrush again?? :hide:

Cheers

Alan

Mmmmm, I don't think I've seen that RF4 built up on here. Seamus and Takamota both built the full Tiger marked one which was Black with Yellow stripes, this one is the Norm 83B scheme which is

RAL6003 Olivgrun
FS 34079 Forest Green
RAL 7021 Schwarzgrau

They are all available from Xtracolor/Xtracrylix without the need to mix.

Hi Alan,

You're right, I did build this Phantom back along, though I used some aftermarket decals for that scheme rather than do the overall tiger scheme Scott mentioned. Can't believe this is nearly four years old!

Image

From what I remember, it's a lovely kit, which goes together pretty much trouble free. My build thread can be found here

I also built the Mirage, again in an alternative tiger scheme, around the same time. Had to work a bit harder on this one, especially around the lower nose to fuselage join and intakes IIRC. Build thread for that is here

HTH

Shaun :)

PS Get the airbrush out! You know it makes sense ;)

Ah, Mr Seamus sir, thank you very much.

I built the Mirage a while back when getting back into modelling. I found the decals gapped in places and required hand painting to fill them in. I enjoyed the build though. I'll be watching with interest.

A very quick update.

The canopy has had a coat of Klear so I hope to have that masked and attached tonight ready for the
primer to be added tomorrow.

I'm surprised you don't melt the plastic with the speed your hands must move at (while building)

I'm just really enjoying the hobby at the moment and especially Tiger Meet kits. Which is odd as I am sure I posted once that
I only like aircraft in their intended combat colours! :hide:

Here is a shot of the build so far and I have taken it and posted it, just to have a break from the decals.

Image

From this distance it looks OK. I can assure you it isn't. This build was going to be all about the decals and
although Revell made a good attempt, they are just too large to cover fuselage curves and so on. In fact, I actually broke parts off the kit in order to help get the decals on!

Revell tried to help by telling you the order to put the decals on. But the second line of instructions is, I think, wrong.

I think I would have been better putting the wing Tiger Eyes on first (as Revell says), then the fuselage decals, then the tail decals, then the spine decal.

I have had to chop the decals in places, but tried to do so in white areas as I am hoping I can match that colour easier than anywhere else.

The paints for this build are Vallejo's Sky Grey and Pastel Blue.

Anyway guys, thanks for looking.

This sure looks good sofar. Good choice in splitting the decal on the white. It really is a easier colour to touch up then a mixed yellow/orange. Does that proce tag actually say £14? If so that really is a deal. Something tells me I may be in trouble with the Mrs. on the way home with more kits.

Micro Sol and Set mate.

.

Yes sir it does. The box set is on sale at Model Zone, so I don't know how long it will be on the shelves. It is on their web site at the sale price.

Looking through my stash of Tiger Meet stuff I realised I can make kits to represent: Britain (Sea King), Portugal (Fiat G.91), Norway (F16), Belgium (F16), Germany (Phantom) and France (Mirage 2000). I also have another 3 French Tiger Meet a/c's Mirage F.1c, a Rafale B and a Rafale B 1:48 and a German Tonka.

I would like to track down an American Tiger Meet kit, as they should be represented.

Well if you want to up scale then Revell's F15E would be an excellent choice, although you'll have to find one first.

If it's this one http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... ger_A7.jpg don't do it  It has to be one of the ugliest Tiger schemes ever, just doesn't look right on the the 'SLUF'

but you have these subdued ones

Now I don't think that's very nice Scott. The primary school children had loads of fun painting that aircraft!

I think that this a/c looks cracking myself and is just screaming to be built. I could make one of the 'subdued' ones you mention as Hobby Boss provide decals for a standard A7. I would just need to paint the section on the tail, which shouldn't be too hard.

No work on the Mirage tonight as I'm sitting down to watch the new Sherlock Holmes DVD with the mem. :yahoo:
