Airfix GB - Saab Viggen - Finished

Post by Cimmerian »

As the two little Japanese aircraft have moved into the painting stage I thought I'd make a start on something else. I found this in the cupboard.

Image

Plenty of time left for this I thought. There's no interior detail at all, just a seat. It went together quite quickly.

It's horrible! Soome of the gaps are that big you can't even call them poor joints.

Looks like a week's work with the filler is on the cards.

I think the challenge will be to end up with a model that doesn't look like it was hit with a hammer. :lmao:

Pass  I'll have a look if I can get to it.

Edit* Just got the kit down which was fun  It goes together in pretty much the same way as the airfix kit. The kit is ok, not brilliant, but ok. There's a slight step at the top of the two fuselage halves but the wing fits in nice and snug into the fuselage and the nose cone is attached flush with the two halves, there are no lococater pins or anything like that, and it sits well. There's also a basic tub provided with a basic seat and decals for the instruments. I got mine at £4.50 on Ebay.

So...the first round of filling and sanding is over. Poured some paint over it to see how much more work it needs. It still needs a fair bit but it's looking a lot better than it did and I think it will escape the hammer treatment.

Coming along nicely looks like all that filling will pay dividends in the end.

Some more filling and sanding done and I'm a little happier with it now. Gave the top surface some paint before work this morning.

Sadly, my boss takes a dim view of me setting a temporary work area up on the counter. Nothing until tonight.

That always, used to annoy my Dad. Get an hour or so in before work, starts the day off nicely.

I'm usually up at 06.00, breakfast, dressed and then 15 mins melting plastic before I'm on my pushbike off to work. If I wake up earlier, it's a bonus as I can get more melting done.

That's a bit narrow minded of your boss! They should consider staff morale!

At work they're holding an 'art' competetition for the move over to the new facility at Wyton. One of the cattegories is 'indoor sculpture'. I'm sure a 1/48 Mossie counts as that  . Now to convince them to let me build it in work time. "It's for the new building sir honest!"

Decals are on, just waiting on the undercarriage and the 'bangy' bits to dry.

Okay, this ugly lump of plastic is as finished as it's going to get.

The only thing I really enjoyed about it was puttinng it down for the last time and saying, "It's done"

More in the gallery.
