Big Scale GB 1/32nd Spitfire Mk Vb Trop FINISHED

Post by Tug 747 »

Well i picked this up at Old Warden the other week and didn't think that i would have time to do it for the group build but progress has been swift in the last 2 days that i thought there is no reason why i should not get this finished in time so here we go.
It will be finished as per the box illustration AB502 IR-G of 244 wing North Africa 1943 flown by W/Cdr Ian Greed.
As i never intended to enter this i was a bit slow taking some images of the build to start with so i do not have a obligatory sprue shot.

The power plant

Cockpit instruments

The seat i still have to add the PE straps.

The wing interior. Note the lack of ammunition.

Currently working on the fuselage interior.
Will get another update in a few days

Looking good so far. I know it has some inaccuracies but it's a decent kit and good fun to build.

Just a small update. The fuselage went together rather well and was overall a good tight fit apart from one small area in front of the cockpit.
Just got a small bit of prep work to do and mate the wings to the fuselage then get the airbrush out.

Excellent work on the details inside. To bad it is all sealed up. But at least you know the details are there. Like I said before, "your builds are getting better and better all the time."

Big Scale GB Hobby Boss 1/32nd Spitfire Mk Vb Trop Updated

Post by Tug 747 »

Thanks for the comments guys they are very much appreciated.
Time for another update albeit a small one just to show the progress on the spraying of the camo which was all done free hand without any aids. Now the colours do honestly look much better in natural light but i think that the flat earth could have been a bit darker and the underside blue a touch lighter perhaps (Think it looks more like a PR blue). All that remains to do now is apply some Klear and the decals and i hope to get that done over the next few days.

That looks really good. The brown looks a little "purple" but that might be the light. Also, check that you need the yellow leading edge. Not many tropical finish Spitfires seem to have it.

You have a really nice finish on the colours though.

Thanks for that Derek that will teach me to read your post before commencing with the Decaling. I was going by the painting and marking guide it says yellow leading edge that is why i done it even though on the box it does not have them

Now this is coming along rather nicely.. I would bet the colours are good. I worked with the "flat earth" paint before and it really does look proper in natural light. Nicely done on the freehand camouflage.

Well here it is in all it's glory. It was a nice kit to build and went together really well having said that i did have a few issues but i think they were me rather then the kit. I had a problem with one of the underwing roundels and when i was putting the rear view mirror on the canopy hood it pinged out of my tweezers never to be seen again. I hope that you like it and i enjoyed doing it.

Just a shame about the yellow leading edge as i never saw Dereks post until it was to late.
Well thanks for looking and all comments and criticism welcome

Hi Doug,
That looks a good build, only one comment the code spacing looks to be in a different position from one side to the other.
Apart from that, Very Well Done. You're getting the hang of this now LOL
