Re: Cold War GB - Revell 1/72 Canberra PR.9

Post by FTS »

I was talking to a fellow model club member last week who used to work on Canberra's and he was saying that they used the jack at the rear of the aircraft on the squadrons. An initiation for new trainees was to ask them to walk along the upper fuselage when the jack wasn't fitted to 'check the aerials' and watch them panic when the nose started to raise off the ground

I've not used Humbrol Decalfix so I can't give you any tips on its usage, I have though just ordered some MicroSet and MicroSol as apparently they are ment to be really easy to use and provide a excellent finish to your decals, which gives them "A painted on look".

There is no one more critical about your build than you. Every build you do, if you allow yourself, will be compared to what others have achieved and, unless you change the way you think, your build will fall short of what they have done. I know I have in the past and it has nearly crushed the desire to make models out of me.

You need to change how you think about YOUR hobby mate. Every completed build is an achievement and every improvement you make to your hobby is a plus.

So, enjoy this great past time and enjoy your time relaxing when melting plastic. :yahoo:

Great progress by the way, you're nearly there.

Oh and the kit should provide a rest that you can stick at the rear of the model. I've seen tail props under this aircraft at museums, so if you need to use it, yours can be a museum exhibit.

I can vouch for what Alan is saying i have over the last 6 weeks lost total interest in my building and by Phantom is sitting on the bench gathering dust. I picked it up again on friday and thought i really can't be bothered but i must get on with it.

I do like the camo work it looks really good. Look forward to seeing this completed and don't be to disheartened if things don't quiet work out as you hope it comes with time and patience.

Cant find any motivation for this or my Mig, pick it up, and its only going to be put down again. Might find some time to do it soon, but might be a while, I am making tiny bits of progressm but my decal fix has left marks on my Canberra

Have you tried a small amount of windowlene on the areas affected? It had worked for me in the past.

I have been using Decalfix on my last few builds, with no problems at all? All I did was brush some onto the model, position the decal then apply a little more over the top. This has worked absolutely fine and has been a marked improvement on models where I hadn't used a decal setting solution. What's been going wrong?

Paintbrush with water and a cloth, problem solved! It'll wash off, Decalfix will dissolve in water

Interesting, any chance of a pic? Not an issue I've had...

If you've attacked that with water to remove the residue I'd expect a coat of Klear over the top will level out the finish, it looks like it's just added a sheen to the paintwork rather than marking it. Varnish should hopefully smooth that off

I am not putting varnish on it, because of what happened to my BBMF Spitfire (look on the humbrol sprays topic on the Aircraft Modelling section). And Clear just makes it glossy?

Depends how much, a thin coat would just give it a satin finish. You can then matt varnish over that though as it seals the paint and decals

I have FINALLY finished! Not to the best standard but I am happy with it, and there is no way I would have down all the decals as there were so many of them!
Here it is!

This just leaves my Mig-29 and Meteor left for this GB! Hope you like it.
