Cold War GB - BAe Nimrod

Post by Deacon »

OK guys this is a build that I have been wanting to do for some time for myself, but this kit is actually for someone else.

Here is the box shot..........

Image

there is a little trepidation about this build as so far in my collection I have only got 4 kits made that are anything like the size of this.

So, no pressure!

Alan,

from experiance, the bigger the better to build. look forward to seeing you complete this one - i am sure the new owner will love it too!

A beauty kit to build... I got one of these in the stash. Once we move and I get a bigger room. I 'll get around to building it. But I did do the open and dry fit, play/imagine what it would look like built up bit. From what I did dry fit together it does seem the kit will build fairly easily. Looking forward to seeing you work on this one.

You know what mate, I'm half tempted to build a second at the same time and part with the better of the two, so
I might be taking notes myself!

Well Bill has thrown me a bit on this one.

The airframe he has chosen was a mark R.1 and so Airfix would have you fill in some windows which is supported by internet images.

Here is a shot of where the build is at the moment.

OK, just to prove I am progressing this build, here are some shots of some further work.

The main gear legs and wheels, note that one of the legs has not had a panel wash yet.........

Now a shot of the cabin, but this is not complete yet..........

Image

and finally some sink holes that I decide needde filling in the air intakes....

Thanks for looking.

Thanks Bill.

Here some more progress mate.

The cabin is now finished.........

Image

and I have used Krystal Klear rather than the kit windows on the fuseage, it will dry clear.

Some nose weight added, I hope it is enough.

Thanks mate.

I've managed to get the wings sorted, but adding them to the fuselage looks like it's going to be tricky,
although I have found no reviews where anyone has had issues! :dunno:

If that was me I'd be looking at using Plastic Weld and just gluing it a little bit at a time, working along it

Great work Alan. The kit is really starting to come together now. Even though I did dry fits with this one, I'll be interested to see how you get on with this wing to fuselage but.

I have been trying to progress this build for Bill.

The wing/fuselage join has been a real pain, but here is how it looks now.

Image

Unfortunately there is a gap and the fuselage seam popped with the weight of the wings.
