Just a few from previous Leuchars airshows.

Whatever happened to the colourful Treble One Tornado F.3 with tailcode "HH"? Last saw it in 2006 as part of the TacDemo Display.

At the risk of sounding very stupid, when do they go out of service? Love that last shot with the sunset, great memories of a wonderful aircraft.

Treble 1 slated for disbandment March 31st 2011, wouldn't be surprised if it happened earlier though!

Two from me. The first at Warton in 2006, the second at Leeming last year. Took me a while to like the F2/3 as I was so gutted at the phasing out of the Phantom.
Re: Tonka F3 - The flying flick knife
Found another fairly nice one in the collection.
Cheers,
Neil.

Why so serious?
Re: Tonka F3 - The flying flick knife
Fantastic shots of what is surely going to be a sorely missed aircraft, one of the few aircraft that looks better with drop tanks IMO.
Re: Tonka F3 - The flying flick knife
An old scan, soory for the image quality. Jets nice though.
Re: Tonka F3 - The flying flick knife
What ever happened to the 2 specially coloured Tornado F.3s ZE907 and ZE839 AR? Saw plenty pics of them but never saw them for real?
Re: Tonka F3 - The flying flick knife
Great stuff so far. Here are 3 from me - RIAT 2007

Fred Grundy was the display pilot for the 88,89 and 90 seasons.

Was a shame that black Tornado F.3 was disapproved of it would have looked great at that that years Airshow, I believe it was seen during the rehearsal for the Diamond Nine for '06 but was locked away for the Airshow - WHY?
Also is there any more word on any other Tornado F.3s likely to be placed on display at any Air Museums? I'm fortunate that I see one at East Fortune but was wondering if there were any other likely to be at other Museums at all.

The black F3 was disapproved because they did not ask anybody in authority before painting the airframe. Put an Airships nose out who ordered the squadron to remove the scheme. If they'd asked first, it would probably have received the nod as it looked awesome.
From a capability point of view, the F3 was poor to awful in comparison to other fighters of its age. The F4 could not have soldiered on for what would have been another 30 years as many of the frames had high hours on them.
Today, the F3 is actually a potent BVR platform, possibly the best out there, barring the F22. Its radar has been updated several times, bringing it to a level that matches most others out there. JTIDS is utilised very well by the crews (good operators), far better than the USAF chaps. AMRAAM & ASRAAM added to the mix have made the F3 a difficult platform to get into the merge untouched. That said, once visual with it, it is a sitting duck unless it is in clean configuration fairly low. That said, it can f**k off sharpish if at a disadvantage and is no doubt great fun to fly.

The Tremblers Black F3...
I think you meant the "Fighting Cocks" Black F.3.
