I don't know who the crew were, but that was taken at Finningley in 1988 in the old 2290CU/65Squdron. Seems like only yesterday though! I think the Firebirds ship is 92 or 93.

If it was 1992 it would have been Archie Neil of 25 sqn doing the honours. 1993 would be Jerry Goatham (think I've got the spelling right) of 56sqn/229 OCU.

Only seems like they were entering service five minutes ago, it took me a while to warm to it but I will miss the old girl.

Looking at these, it does seem remarkable that the F-4 Phantom replacement [the Tornado F3] has come and gone too - while over in Germany they still retain the Phantom, albeit in reduced numbers. Not for much longer admittedly. Was it not possible to refurbish the best UK F-4 examples and give them an extended life? Reading ukserials.com - many of those Tornado F3's had rather short flying careers, certainly the later production ones, some fewer than 15 years.

Where have most of these airframes ended up?I know some were at Leeming and a couple have gone to museums.The rest have been reduced to scrap?
