Some truly fabulous stuff on this thread, but not convinced we have scratched the surface yet, must be more pictures out there?

Not exactly a colourful CAG bird, this A-6E... The other Intruders of VA-115 wore grey markings. They were based at NAS Atsugi in 1994, but I took this photo at Misawa.

There are some wonderful shots of colourful CAG birds on this thread  However, there are also many which are not CAG aircraft, so maybe the thread should be re-titled "Colourful USN Birds".

For clarification; A CAG aircraft is always the first modex x00 (Double nutts) of a squadron, eg. aircarft coded 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 etc.

Aircraft with modex x01 (101, 201, 301 etc.) are the Squadron XO's aircraft.

So any USN aircraft in a special scheme or markings which doesn't carry a double nutts modex ISN'T a CAG bird!!

I almost forgot to add that CAG aircraft are also those drawn from Carrier Air Wings (CVW), so if a USN squadron which isn't part of a CVW has special marked aircraft, then none of these are CAG aircraft either.
