Lockheed's Workhorse - C-130s, post yours!

Post by TonyO »

Haven't done one of these for a while, so I was thinking about what might make a decent subject and I thought how about one we haven't done for a while, the Lockheed C-130 Hercules. Pictures can be of any operator, military or civil, any variant as long as it's a Hercules.

Three images per post as always but as many posts as you wish! If you can an explanation of what and where you shot it would be great too!

Here's a couple from me, an MC-130 banking out of Fairford on departure and one of the last RAF C1Ps departs for Kandahar in 2006.

Good thread Tony, Most recent out the two was the Indian at Brize, Rushed down the day it was due to go and got there just in time.

This one, From Mildenhall. Having been there all day with a friend borrowing his 300mm f/2.8 IS, we decided to stop a bit longer when this C-130 was going around doing touch and go's.. Quite happy with the result and it's at f/2.8

Image

And another from Brize, Standing there all day on a day off in hope of it getting busy when it hammered down. Quite liked this after the rain had passed.

Great idea Tony. I love the Herc!

A few lurking in my Photobucket account. I've probably posted these at some time in the past, so apologies for the repeats.
1. Seen at the Milldenhall Air Fete in 1982(?) Does anyone know anything about the camo scheme?

Epic stuff, this thread has really taken off, hopefully we'll see some more in the next few days. Particularly like the shot of the Nigerian by PaulHP...

Think is this my rarest C-130, of the Uruguayan Air Force, they have two, sometimes otherwise this is the only one working!

Tony ,that Uruguayan is rather nice !
This thread could go on for a very long time .. these are just ones I could access quickly before zipping off to work , all taken at Lyneham in 2007 . I'll have to look further back later .....................

Love that Snoopy photo, Tony, that Uruguayan Air Force one is tasty too, never seen a photo of one from memory. Will dig out a few more shots today...

Fantastic subject choice Tony! PaulHP's shot of the Nigerian crate rather trumps mine, so I might re-edit and upload that later. Your RAF C1P's lovely, one example which I've never managed to catch!

First up from me, an RAF work horse

One that's yet to be posted, Qatar's new C-130J

And I couldn't resist posting another of HZ-129, love this scheme!

Liking the Qatari and that Saudi looks well weather beaten - some excellent stuff appearing!

Here's a couple I have posted before, but really like. Kuwaiti at a stormy Lyneham and a Chilean AF example returning after a humanitarian flight following the 2010 earthquake!
