G-SABR - Thanks for the memories.

Post by Exiler »

So with G-SABR set to leave the UK soon I thought it would be nice to share some of our images of G-SABR and possibly some thoughts of some the displays you've witnessed.

Its been great to watch over the last few years. Not only a lovely aeroplane, but always very well displayed. Here are a couple from the last time I saw it, at Southport last year.

Its been great seeing her around for the so long. One of the best presented aircraft on the circuit IMHO.

I'm sure there are plenty of F-86 fans in the States that will really enjoy having an A model around.

A few from me of a great aircraft and thanks to Golden Apple for giving us the chance to see such a jet in the first place.

Here are some of mine. Gonna miss it for it's topsides and smokey exhaust that I remember it for! :worship:

My wife called it "cow plane" when we first met and I started taking her to shows - The intake looked like a cow's nose apparently...

Hi Guys.

Really touched by your tributes and the quality of the pictures is superb. 48-178 has been a massive part of my life for 18 years (I first flew her in 1996!) so I'm very sad to see her go. She will be in good hands in the USA, so there is some comfort!

It's hard to believe that this machine entered service in 1949! It was so ahead of its time in an era when progress in aviation was incredibly rapid and most new aircraft designs were obsolete on the drawing board. It was classic, iconic and legendary, and great fun to fly. The performance was staggering and it always looked beautiful. You didn't have to fly this aircraft to love and appreciate it!

We have been fortunate to have had such good and solid support from many quarters over the years and it has been a privilege to have been entrusted to be custodians of what is a unique and remarkable aircraft; the world's oldest airworthy jet and the only "A" model that still flys.

Thank you all again for your kind appreciation.

Best wishes

What a nice post, Mark. Always heartening to see that operators appreciate their audience as much as we do their aircraft.

The Sabre will be a real loss to the UK Airshow scene. Please tell us you'll be bringing an F-100 back the other way?

I don't have many shots to share - the Sabre has been firmly amongst my favourites for a long time, but one of those machines I always seemed to make a hash of photographing. Here's the best I can scrape together.

Here is a sneak preview of a short film we've put together about the Sabre. We will upload to YouTube for wider release once the aircraft heads West, but for now PLEASE do not share - for your eyes only!
