Fire Fighting-Fixed wing and helicopters
Not a mainstream aviation subject but hopefully there are some unusual and different pics out there and it is a boring winter.
Allow me to start the ball rolling. On a family holiday by chance I met the pilot of a firefighting helicopter who said they were based at Mariposa-Yosemite Airport in 2013. Hence a few hours usefully spent at the Airport, with the Boss reading in the car.
Bell AH-1 Cobra Firewatch-apparently at the nose is an infrared camera to seek the fire edge through the obscuring smoke and then advising where to drop the water/retardant
Sikorsky UH-60 Firehawk with underneath slung water bucket
Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane, the only time I have seen them in 20+ years of aviation photography
The Mighty Martin Mars (Hawaii Mars) at Oshkosh Seaplane Base in 2016. One of only 2 flying.
Hope you enjoy but let's see what others have, I am sure there are some interesting Water Aircraft pics out there.

A couple, also from the USA, which I came across at the end of the 2016 Fire Season. Just happened to be driving by....

That's a very good and often colorful theme !

A department I'm sadly lacking in. I did catch this CL when spotting at Albacete in January 2015:

I won't claim these to be particularly great photos, they were all taken on a film camera with no zoom, oh to have had a DSLR with 500mm lens at the time.
But it isn't everyday you find yourself on the frontline of the fight against a forest fire. First photo is for reference as to how close to our campsite the fire got.
These are from the summer of 2003 in the Durance valley in Southern France, we had watched a whole train of CL's picking up water from one of the local lakes on our way back to the campsite and then found the fire brigade had set up their command centre in the field next to us.
Campsite on the near side of the river, fire on the far side.

The scale of the fire was immense

Spot the helicopter using the lake on the campsite to fill up it's water tank (it wasn't a big lake)

Off on another waterdrop

Re: Fire Fighting-Fixed wing and helicopters
Just the one from me, despite F&R being a major interest of mine!
Photographed at RIAT 2013. I believe this was being trialled as a platform for getting a crew and entrapment cutting gear to the scene of an RTC ahead of the usual land-based pumps and Rescue Tenders. Not 100% within the title of this thread, but from an allied activity.
Happy to be corrected if this info is wrong.

Seen back in the summer in Alaska - at least it would seem to be fire-fighting related. Happy to be corrected.

Re: Fire Fighting-Fixed wing and helicopters
Some not so modern ones from me.....
In 2003, on a 'grand tour' of California, i literally stumbled across these beauties upon being turned away from Palmdale (well you have to chance your luck, dont you? ) and say the tail of a silver aircraft that turned out to be a KC-97 at Willian J. Fox Field.
I'd seen a DC6 waterbomber at about 5000 ft earlier in the week, but thought nothing of it, although nice to see overhead.
As i got closer to the field, following silver tail and my nose, a Neptune took off on firebombing duties.
Once at the field an hour and a half was spent watching them come and go, and boy what a sound......props to just before rotate then the jets opened up. simply terrific as i'd never seen one fly before then and suddenly i'm seeing 4 active ones plus the ramp repair birds.
Enjoy. They were taken on the 28th October 2003

Slightly different, saw this at Oshkosh last year, it's used by the forestry service to drop 'Smoke Jumpers' close to fires.
