I was basing that on this quote from their news section:

People’s Republic of China will take part in the XIV International Aviation and Space Salon as a partner country. MAKS-2019 will be the first airshow held in a new format.

Confirmation of their participation as a partner country is expressed with in the official letter from Miao Wei – minister of Industry and Informatization of the People’s Republic of China – to Denis Manturov – minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.“We have recently received a written confirmation from my colleague–Mr. Miao Wei, minister of industry and informatization of China. Adelegation from China is planned to arrive in order to review the terms of the Airshow”–said Mr. Manturov in regards to China’s decision.

The delegation from the PRC Ministry of industry and informatization is expected to arrive shortly in Moscow for a series of meetings with the Ministry of industry and trade of Russia regarding the preparations to the airshow.

According to the Minister, over 350 companies have confirmed their participation in MAKS-2019, including almost all the leading Russian enterprises of the aerospace industry. There are also applications from companies from 20 countries, not counting the participants of the business program. Exhibit spaces have been booked for national expositions of France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Canada, and Belgium. Work is underway to form national expositions of the Republic of Belarus and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Alexander Levin, CEO of Aviasalon JSC, made a report on preparations to the MAKS-2019. He noted the positive dynamics in a number of indicators, which allows us to hope that the level of 2017 will be maintained and exceeded. “The analysis of applications submitted at this time shows, at a minimum, the preservation of the level of 2017 by the number of exhibitors and the rented exhibition space, namely, at least 42 thousand square meters. The number of visitors we expect is at least half a million people”, - he said, adding that the work on the formation of the exposition is in the active phase, more than 85% of the exhibition space has been reserved.

For the first time the airshow will host a newly formed special “Made in Russia” section that will unite in a separate pavilion various expositions of enterprises from Tatarstan Republic, Ulyanovsk, Samara, Nizhny Novgorod, Perm and Smolensk regions. The focus of the section will be on products and services of supplier companies of 2-4 levels. Another innovation will be a Cargo Village project with the participation of the An-124 and Il-76 aircraft of the Volga-Dnepr Group of Companies. This site will demonstrate unique opportunities for the development of the export of air freight services.

I stand corrected - there was very little in the way of actual foreign airframes when I was there in 2017...if I recall, apart from some smaller stuff, the only thing was an Airbus A350 which left after 2 days...there's a list from 2017 here https://forum.scramble.nl/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=133390&p=879975&hilit=MAKS#p879975

Direct translation as the English version doesn't appear to be working at the moment:

"Aviasalon JSC, the official organizer of the MAKS International Aviation and Space Salon, invites all aviation photography enthusiasts to take part in the MAKS STARS IN CHARGE PARK photo contest.

The competition will be a central part of a large project dedicated to the MAKS-2019. An exhibition dedicated to MAKS will be formed from the best works submitted for the contest, as well as materials from professional photographers. Of interest to visitors will be the master classes of aviation photographers and video operators.

“The art project that we are implementing will help discover new talents and draw attention to the aviation photography of young authors,” said Alexander Levin, general director of Aviasalon.

Any amateur photographer who has works from the past salons in the archive can become a participant in the competition: portraits of amateur piloting, shooting of flights, general plans related to MAKS salons. The selection of the best works is entrusted to an authoritative professional jury. In addition, in April-May 2019, the photo contest will be held in social networks, which will not only determine the work that won the sympathies of the audience, but also provide an opportunity for the authors to show their works to 150,000th audience of subscribers to the official MAKS accounts.

Applications for participation together with entries will be accepted until May 15. Detailed conditions of the competition will soon be published on the website www.aviasalon.com.

English side still not working....3 more new articles:

June 4th - Started selling tickets for MAKS-2019

Pre-sale of tickets for the International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2019, which will be held from August 27 to September 1 in Zhukovsky near Moscow, is open on June 3 on the official website of the Aviasalon.com exhibition and in the sales network of the ticket operator of the event Parter.ru.

Buying tickets for MAKS as part of the pre-sale is the best opportunity to attend the main aviation event of the year without overpayment. Especially for cabin guests who are planning a trip to Zhukovsky in advance, the price is 700 rubles, which has not changed since 2017. “For guests who make a purchase in June, there will be a special price of 700 rubles per ticket, giving the right to attend the event on one of the public days from August 30 to September 1. Exactly the same price was set two years ago, ”said Vladimir Sovetkin, deputy general director of Aviasalon.

The ability to buy tickets at the best price is limited in time. Already in the period from July 1 to August 25, the cost of admission will increase to 800 rubles, which also equals the price in 2017, and from August 26 to September 1, such a ticket will cost 1000 rubles. For guests who can not decide in advance on the preferred date of the visit to the salon, tickets worth 1100 rubles are offered. They provide a one-time visit to the exhibition on any of the public days. By tradition, children under the age of 14 can visit the salon for free, but their passage to the exhibition complex is possible only when accompanied by their parents.

Tickets of the business category, which provide for a one-time visit to the exhibition on any day from August 27 to September 1, are available for pre-sale at a price of 2,800 rubles, the ticket price will rise to 3,000 rubles immediately before the salon opens.

In addition to tickets for sale are offered tickets for parking cars at a cost of from 2500 to 3500 rubles, as well as buses at a price of 4000 rubles.

The most comfortable conditions for inspecting the exhibition and observing the demonstration flights are PRIORITY tickets, which, among other things, provide an opportunity to visit a special pavilion and viewing stands. To visit a media platform that is optimal for photo and video shooting, special tickets are offered, allowing you to visit the exhibition one-time on any of the days from August 27 to September 1.

A meeting on the preparation of the XIV International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2019 with the participation of representatives of leading domestic companies of the aerospace industry, as well as the administrations of several regions of the Russian Federation, was held on June 4 in Moscow at the site of the Zaryadye Park. Participants of the event, chaired by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Oleg Bocharov, stated a high degree of readiness for the exhibition.

The key subject of discussion was the formation of the exhibition program of the salon. O. Bocharov drew attention to the need to emphasize attention when defining the list of exhibits on advanced, innovative developments that meet the challenges facing the aviation industry. “We see in which directions a breakthrough is possible today: these are supersonic, more electric aircraft and hybrid propulsion systems, aero taxi, robotic complexes. We must show scientifically developed concepts, and where there are achievements, we must demonstrate them clearly, ”he stressed.

Vladimir Sovetkin, Deputy General Director of Aviasalon OJSC, informed the meeting participants about working with exhibitors. According to him, at the beginning of June, applications were received for 95% of the exhibition space in the pavilions, while for the 12 weeks remaining before the exhibition opening, a significant number of additional applications are expected. Much of the reserved space has already been contracted, added V. Sovetkin. The deputy director of the exhibition company stated that foreign companies note a high interest in participating in the exhibition program.

A wide representation at MAKS-2019 is expected from the Russian regions in which the aerospace industry enterprises are concentrated. The Republic of Tatarstan, the Ulyanovsk and Samara regions, as well as the Perm Territory have already formed the concept of participation in the salon. Negotiations are continuing with the administrations of Moscow, the Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod regions, the Khabarovsk Territory. Sergey Morozov, the governor of the Ulyanovsk region, noted that the region’s exposition will highlight the work of the country's only special economic zone of the port type, the possibilities of the customization center will be presented, as well as the potential of the regional educational institutions. Considerable attention will be paid to work within the aviation cluster in the direction of creating new materials for composite production. In addition, S. Morozov announced the holding of a conference in the framework of MAKS-2019 with the broad participation of aircraft-building regions of Russia.

At the end of the meeting, the participants visited the exhibition “Stars of MAKS in Zaryadye Park”.

It seems that the English side of the site is still lagging significantly behind the Russian side.

From previous reports it looked like the media platform was on the normal crowd side...it appears from this direct translation that they've moved it inside the show box and the ticket includes insurance.

https://www.aviasalon.com/ru/media/mediaplatforma

Media platform

The media platform is a conveniently located (opposite to the spectators side of the runway) specialized platform for photo and video filming, which is a stable two-story construction with a height of 4 meters. The second floor of the media platform was created as an observation deck with an open view, which allows shooting of flights “by the sun”. Next to the media platform is a tent (10-15 square meters. M), which will be placed tables with soft drinks and snacks.

Visitors who purchase tickets with the option of taking photos and videos from a media platform in advance sale need to register an hour before the flight program begins with the manager at the MAKS 2019 office and go through the compulsory insurance procedure (included in the ticket price).

Ticket included
One-time visit to the media platform from August 27 to September 1
Entrance to the territory of MAKS 2019;
The best places for photo and video;
Delivery of visitors from the Directorate (exposure scheme) to the place of filming and back. Visitors will be delivered by official vehicles with “Media Platform” signs on schedule from the Directorate’s office;
Bar with refreshments and snacks;
Mandatory accident insurance is included in the ticket price.

From TASS

Russia will demonstrate its most advanced Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jet at the MAKS-2019 aerospace show in the town of Zhukovsky outside Moscow, the state arms seller Rosoboronexport said in a statement on Wednesday.

"The delegations from the Air Force and all the guests of the MAKS international aerospace show in the town of Zhukovsky near Moscow will be able to view the newest Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jets from August 27 to September 1," the statement says.

At the MAKS-2019 aerospace show, Russia will also feature a light Il-112V military transport plane, Su-35 and Su-30SM multirole super-maneuverable fighters and Yak-130 combat training aircraft. Just had my Passports returned with Visas all firmly stuck inside so that's another job sorted. Flights , Hotel, Visas all ticked so now to start thinking of where to visit on my MAKS free days. Most probably be at MAKS Wednesday and Thursday as in previous years when there should still be some interesting bits in the static and hopefully some in the flying display which I should say I have found in years gone can be a bit "patchy" with some large gaps between displays.
Maybe Monino , Zadorozhny Technic Museum ? Any other ideas ?
There is a new Museum taking shape far West from Moscow but won't be open for a few years yet ,that's if it ever gets that far, and I'm not sure I'd take the long journey to find out "Nyet" ! I can't get access.

Are you referring to Patriot Park? As far as I'm aware it's already open and it's definitely worth a visit if you get the chance as the exhibits are in mint condition, probably better than when they were in service! They also have military vehicles and a shooting range there too.

There's also Victory Park and the Victory Museum which are worth a visit, though I think you need separate tickets even though they're essentially on the same site.

https://flic.kr/s/aHsm6iunMv

Also, there's the Central Armed Forces Museum, but it's very cramped for photography.

https://flic.kr/s/aHsm7tfCGH

And as mentioned VDNKh park, not a huge amount of aviation there, but it's definitely worth a visit for the park buildings - each building represents a Soviet Union country and is like a mini museum to that country.

Hi all,
The “museum “ isn’t actually open or even started yet but there is a area West of Moscow with a large number of airframes , some of which were from the aircraft that were left at Khodyka many years ago. Some of these from Khodynka have also been moved to the Zadorozhny Techic Museum .
When I last visited Khodynka it was just a building site with only 2 airframes left intact but I had a “coversation “ in my best pigeon Russian with one of the site managers and he said that there was going to be a large aviation museum quite a few miles West from Moscow.where some of the airframes from Khodynka had already been taken . I thought he meant the Patriot Park area but he said it was much further West and only an aviation museum.
I have visited the Victory Park sites and really enjoyed the displays , in fact I made friends with the lady on the ticket desk in the Airctaft Museum part as she found my Russian very good ??
As you say the Central Armed Forces Museum is quite cramped and crammed with airframes although it has a great selection of items and displays and is very much worth a visit as is the Cosmonaut Museum and the VVT Park even if it’s for the fantastic selection of knock off shops
! Any other ideas gratefully recieved.

Hi,

Not sure if open yet....

Yes that’s the one at Medyn. At the moment it is still an “ongoing project” and judging by any info I can gain it’ a long way off yet. There are quite a few airframes on the site though and maybe they may take some extras from Monino if the stories of its impending closure are true. Let’s hope those stories are just stories rather than facts.

Hello all UKAR-ians

I am planning to be at MAKS 2019. Arrival 26 Aug. leaving 2 September.

I have my flights and housing in Moscow Center (Taganka). Still working on getting my visa. I don't think it should be any problem.

I was in Moscow before, in the old days of the Soviet Union. It was a high school trip way back when.

My ideal would be attending the first Business day with a company pass and one of the public days, playing it by ear in between, maybe watching the planes off-site.

This will be my first visit to MAKS. The Sukhoi 57 motivated me to make the trip. I hope I can see TU-160 also and whatever else will be on the program.

I see that some of you were at the air show before. I am an older woman been on the air show scene since the mid-60's. I am re-learning aviation photography with digital equipment. I used to do 35mm black and white film in the old days.

I will appreciate any tips and advice and I would be happy to meet some of you at the event or off MAKS if possible. Not sure if a forum meet-up will be organized. I will keep monitoring this thread.

Thanks a lot for everything.

Last but not least I had it confirmed from insider source that the A350 will be there for two days.

Last but not least I had it confirmed from insider source that the A350 will be there for two days.

Hi, I'll try and address a few of your points!

So, regarding the Su-57 and Tu-160, I expect the Su-57 will be in the flying display, maybe as a pair, but I don't expect to see one in the static park for security reasons, for the Tu-160 this will probably be the opposite, i.e. in the static but not flying. There is an outside chance of a Tu-160 in the flying display as they are in the process of modernising the fleet, however this a remote chance at best.

From the photography side it will depend on the type of photography you're looking to do? If you're looking at photographing the static park then you'll need a fairly wide angle lens, as some of the aircraft are very large and you will be very close, most of my shots at the 2017 show were in the 16-60mm range on a full frame camera. The flying display needs a 200-500mm focal length, and I'd say 400mm is the minimum to fill the frame without excessive cropping. From the showground you also face the problem of looking into the sun, providing it's sunny of course! This is why many people either choose the media enclosure (£130ish) on the south side of the runway, or head over to the fields on the other side of the river where the aircraft are literally overhead at times.

There isn't a planned forum meetup as many will be going on different days, some with tour groups, others with friends. I'm heading over with 4Aviation and (I think) we're at the show on the Thursday, and outside on the Saturday and Sunday.

Finally, if you plan to attend on a public day be prepared for HUGE crowds, as the show is very popular!

Follow up question if I could sir.

On the show day front, how are they with camera bags? I usually have a think tank bag that's pretty large (just barely carry on legal), and pretty full...would that be doable or will they cause a hassle?

You 'should' be fine, they will obviously want to inspect the contents at the security checkpoint, but there will be a lot of photographers with massive lenses so I don't think it will be an issue, it's not like the US.

Hi "jalfrezi"
thank you very much for your answer.

I looked at your pictures on your flickr and Instagram accounts. I am amazed how sharp they are. I am not sure how you get them so sharp if by using a tripod or hand held? Are you using image correction software at all? Photoshop/Gimp or whatever else?

You asked me about my camera equipment.vI always used Nikon from the days of 35mm film I had a couple of Nikkormat and a Nikon F with prisms. I also borrowed a Hasselblad for architecture from time to time.

I have a Nikon body with a 28-55 mm VR and also a 70-300 mm VR both Nikon lenses. I am now retired so not rich. I would like to buy another Nikon body and a 500 mm VR lens some day.

VR lenses are good to have for someone like me but they tend to be on the heavy side carrying them around as I am more on the frail side.

I have of course heard of the huge crowds on the public days. I don't do well with huge crowds. I doubt they will even have any "disability" sections on the ground for those with regular tickets. It will just be with zillions of people probably pushing in all directions. Russia is not Japan.

The media platform is off limits for my finances. Knowing how to get to the fields on the other side of the river and reach there would be great. I will be without a car. I suppose it will be crowded there also but probably not as bad as the air show grounds itself.

I was thinking of going the first day of the trade show. I am thinking if President Putin comes with his security and some of his Ministers, they will block a lot of places and we will not be able to access some of the places?

I was at Paris Air Show on Tuesday. I was told that Macron was there the day before with a cohort of 100 persons and no one could access any of the sectors in the air show everything was blocked and the whole place was a gigantic mess. Tuesday was a repeat of that without Macron as those who were there on Monday could not do anything. The Airbus chalet was like Grand Central Station at rush hour. Awful. I was there again Saturday. I was OK once I had reached the Airbus chalet it was really nice and comfy.

I don' t want to go all the way to Moscow and get crushed by the crowds! :dizzy: I want to be able to enjoy my visit. I have no idea what MAKS trade days are like as I have not been before.

Thanks, all of my photographs are handheld, with the exception of the night shots. As I always shoot RAW, I use Adobe Camera Raw and then Photoshop for my image processing.

I'd recommend for the static to get to the showground as early as possible and then head straight to the large aircraft, which tend to be parked together, photograph these while the crowd is at its lowest before moving on to the smaller exhibits. 300mm will be a little short for individual aircraft in the air requiring some cropping during post processing, but it should be fine for the display teams.

I went to the 2017 show on a Friday which is the first of the public days, and while it wasn't too busy first thing, by 11am it was starting to get very busy. The trade days should be noticeably quieter, but like you say, it's probably best to avoid the opening day in case of increased security if there are VIPs there.

Without transport the fields on the other side of the river will only really be accessible via a taxi, in which case the ability to speak Russian would help greatly!
