Sky High at Wigram

Post by Kiwidave »

With the closure of Wigram as a airfield, the RNZAF bought at least one example of each type in its fleet, the RNZAF flew 2 displays on the day with the C-130, P-3, 757 & Seasprite held back ntil the afternoon display, the afternoon display also marked the first time that 757 display with its new cargo door in place.
The RNZAF Historic Flight also sent its Harvard as it was based at Wigram before it was transfered to the RNAF Historic Flight.
The NZ Warbirds sent its Dc-3 and PBY, the Dc-3 was sent as the former Wigram based Dc-3 was out of action due to a engine replacement, Local Harvard ZK-XSA was also there as well as Graham Bethell bought his P-51D down from Auckland for the event which is painted as NZ2415 which was based at Wigram back in the 1950s.

Even thou the event was just for one day it was good to see the RNZAF in force for the last time at Wigram as now only the Red Checkers and the RNZAF & RNZN helicopters will be able to get into Wigram.
