Duxford Saturday and Sunday - what a hot show (updated)

Postby Griffon_301 on Fri 16 Jul 2010, 11:56 am

Hello!

coming over from sunny hot Austria, we were looking forward to a few cool(er) days...
you all know what happened though-it was really not that cool at all;

at least the show was great (not a good as last year´s IMHO)-but Duxford is still one of the most atmospheric shows I know).
as there have been posted many shows of the flying display already, I will limit myself to some more extraordinary views we were able to get and I will add some more over the following days, as time permits me to be able to select and edit them a little;

to go along with the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, I will start with two birds of that era (actually one original and one, eh, well you will get the idea...)

The Spitfire Mk.I

and its adversary, the ME-109 (the Buchon in that case)...

more shots to follow... :)

I know this is a verrry belated Legends post..
Real life intervened speedily after coming home from the UK, therefor, it took me some time to do so, but finally, I had some time to quickly screen the images we took at Legends;
just a quick selection and a little post processing resulted in the images below.

Enjoy... :)

to capture the Battle of Britain spirit, I will start with this one.....

Never in the field of human conflict....

Image

...and here we go!
Let´s start with the home team-the Spitfires

Another Spitfire...

...and yet on more...

The office of one of the breed

Here they come...

Image

...and there they go...

Image

...coming home...

Image

...we continue with the "bad guys" - an assortment of Germans and Russians

The Messerschmitt, well, at least it has Messerschmitt origins
...and it can fly as well...

Image

A Fledgling Eagle...

Image

The Rata...

Image

Za Rodinu! - The Yak

Image

...and the Americans put up a show as well...
we start with the iconic US fighter of the war, the Mustang...

Ferocious Frankie

Image

...and Nooky Booky

Image

Sally B - the big friend

Image

Big Friend - Little Friend

Image

The Corsair

Image

...and the Warhawk

Image

loads of Horsepower here...

Image

we round up the show with the British classics on show...

A Tribute to Alex Henshaw - one of aviation´s greatest heroes

Image

A Hawker Trilogy - First the biplanes

Image

The Hurricane and one of its ancestors

Image

The last of the prop driven breed - the mighty SeaFury

Image

Flying (and taxying) Legends

Image

Of course this is only a fraction of the shots we took, I just did not have the time to properly screen all of them and process them a little bit;
what you have seen is a quick pick so to say, the ones that jumped into my eye when quickly browsing the folder.
Hope you like them, comments and criticism is always welcome of course.

cheers
phil

That is a very impressive set. I look forward to seeing your selection of Flying Legends 2011 next year.

The Mustang won't do what a Spitfire does, but it does it over Berlin.

as one of my shots was chosen to feature in the "Picture of the Week" feature, I have decided to celebrate a little and upload some more shots :)
I do hope there is still interest in some more Duxford shots at all...

so here is the first bunch of some more "bonus" shots I will upload once they are finished....

yes, it was hot at this years Legends..

How to cool a Spit Driver

I am proud of the next picture, because this was shot by my girlfriend-her first try with my DSLR and the heavy 100-400mm pump - she also directed me how to postprocess the shot

Image

the next was also shot by her-rework again directed by her (it had to be artsy she said...)

Image

and finally, one of my favourites, just look at the face of the pilot...

Image

more to follow... (if there´s interest)...
