Had a great time at RIAT this year courtesy to airshows.co.uk and DBH with the FRIAT Mach 3 ticket, I could only do the arrivals and departure days so probably missed the best of the weather. But I did manage some images that I am pleased with.

Some of these images have been Tonemapped, so if you do not like look away now!

Nice set - love the F-15E.

Glad that you had a good time - sadly we can't arrange the weather!

Thanks to everyone at DBH for supporting our competition last year so strongly.

There are some very nice images here Jon but I`d prefer to see the originals. One and two lwould look very good I`m sure without the HDR (which I`m sadly not a fan of). The first two are nice 'HDR' images but they are not the images anyone saw with the naked eye.

To be honest, I`d prefer it if all HDR images went in a seperate HDR section.....any chance moderators?

Sorry. I really like the B2 and again, I think your Typhoon climbing shot is a really good one and doesn`t need the extra processing.

Best wishes, Ian

Ian thanks for your comment, in regards to the Typhoon shot I think you are right and I have changed it to the standard shot, but in regards to shots 1 and 2 I think the tonemapped version have more detail to what was otherwise a bland shot in not very nice weather conditions.

HDR or Tonemapping as some of these are is very subjective and it is down to personal tastes I suppose, but in my mind no digital image is how the eye would have seen the original view as the image will have been changed in processing to alter the sharpness, contrast and sometimes the colour balance etc. Myself personally I would only use Tonemapping on an image that has little contrast for example the Tonka image as I think it can make the image look a bit more alive, but this could be just down to my photography and processing skills.

Below is an edit of shot 1 without any Tonemapping applied, personally I think the Tonemapped version has much more life to it.

As I said very subjective.

Fair point Jon and accepted. As you say, it is down to personal choice and you are right about the amount the work that goes into it now. There`s no doubting the quality of your images from me all of which I like alot. In fact your B2 is as good as any I`ve seen.

Take care and I dare say I`ll catch you out soon.

Regards, ian

ps. I like the Torn GR4 as re-processed.
