Here is a few pics of The Box Kites flight on 2/3/2014 It was truly something to see, although i have travelled to UK and seen one airborne at Old Warden to see one fly after being built at the base and flown for the 100th anniversary was very special indeed

Wow!

As I said in another Point Cook thread, last time I saw it (October 2012), it was still being put together and one of the helpers said they were racing against time to get her up and running in time. Glad to see they made it

Actually it has the same span lower wing as the OW example, and a longer-span upper wing with an extra set of 'balancers' (similar to ailerons, but they only move in the 'down' position)

Excellent images of a pretty historic moment. The light really adds to them - quite ethereal.

The Hudson seems a lot more photogenic and lower there at Point Cook than it was at Avalon, I ended up getting virtual silhouettes as she was just at the wrong height and angle  Did "Grey Nurse" or the Canberra fly?

It was an unexpected bonus to see it fly on Sunday! I flew over from Auckland for 4 nights, fortunately I was able to get onto the base on the Friday (the RAAF Museum being closed to the public on the Thursday and Friday).
