*UPDATED* 2017 Antique Aeroplane fly-in at Echuca, Australia

Post by GeorgeP »

Once again the weather gods co-operated to provide excellent conditions for the Antique Aeroplane Association's annual fly-in at Echuca, Australia. Light winds, beautiful blue skies and a stunning collection of antique aeroplanes made for a great weekend. The lack of an organised airshow at this event did not diminish my enjoyment because most owners flew their aeroplanes at least once per day which provided ample opportunities for photography. The stand-out aircraft were a trio of Piper J3 Cubs and an immaculate DH-83 Fox Moth. Other notable attendees included a DH-60 Gipsy Moth, a DH-85 Leopard Moth and a DH-60 Moth. A few WWII trainers plus two jet trainers provided something for everyone. Thanks for viewing and I hope you enjoy the images. C&C always welcome.

Most of the open-cockpit aircraft departed early on Sunday due to atrocious weather that was forecast for NSW.

The CT-4A (a.k.a. Plastic Parrot) replaced the Winjeel as the R.A.A.F.'s primary trainer.

This Albatros was kept busy operating joy flights during the weekend.

Another attendee that pleased the jet fans. Ex-Singapore AF, now privately owned.

A regular at many of the fly-ins is the Leopard Moth.

This colourful Recruit was one of two that attended.

About a dozen Tigers were present and I reckon this one was the best.

N.A. trainers were represented by this sole Trojan...

Another image of the Fox Moth because too many images of this beauty are never enough.

Some absolute gems in there, particularly the Winjeel, Airtrainer and Army Cessna. Singapore S211 in a very nice scheme too.

Great post

Absolutely fantastic. What a superb gathering. Really, really difficult to pick out a favourite but the Moths and Winjeel stand out for me.

Thanks for the responses. Well, it appears that the Winjeel has a few fans, so here's a few more from the weekend. I'll also add a few more aircraft types that I've just processed. I'm counting down the days until Duxford FL! :yahoo:

ImageCA-25 Winjeel VH-WIU by GP1961, on Flickr

Another Winjeel in a (rather faded) training colour scheme followed by two in camo. scheme which I believe may have been the one used for Forward Air Control aircraft. Happy to be corrected.

ImageC-195B VH-VLD - 1483 by GP1961, on Flickr

Another regular is this immaculate Cessna 195B.

ImageAustaer MkIII VH-SNI - 2001 by GP1961, on Flickr

Auster numbers were down this year, probably due to poor weather up in NSW.

ImageYAK-52 VH-YGC - 3529 by GP1961, on Flickr

No evidence of panic in the crowd when the Russians arrived.

Thanks for these, I love to see Aussie colour schemes on the Moths so different than UK ones.

Hi, a really nice series, like the other replies I would have liked to be there, so I will keep an eye open for one of their future fly-ins. cheers, RonS
