I heard one say the weathering was due to where they'd just been...

I spent a good half hour talking to one of the pilots on Saturday (he was wearing aviators and had a cool mustache in fact i was convinced it was goose from Top Gun ) he said that the weathering of the paint was due to the radiation encountered at altitude. He also confirmed that the aircraft on display had been used daily for some considerable time recently over Afghanistan and the wider Middle East area.
